Since rejoining the Mariners, Eugenio Suarez has gone 3-for-26 with 1 HR and 11 K. In other words, he would have been a seamless addition to the #Cubs offense in the past homestand.

On this #Cubs off day, I flipped on the White Sox game on MLB TV and switched the audio feed to Len Kasper’s radio call, which reminded me how deeply I prefer Kasper to Boog Sciambi, which made me very sad. Why do I do these things to myself?

His 75 game score was his highest of the season, and the eye test said he was just really on one. He also made some history. His strikeout rate had been just 16.5%, but in these last six starts? It’s 20.5%. You want to see that kind of improvement from a guy like Horton, whose walk rate has held steady in that time. I was demoralized by the #Cubs’ loss last night so I flipped on the Yankees game v.Texas in the bottom of the 9th, looking for a little joy. Yanks did not disappoint.

Since June 17, the #Cubs have lost more ground to the Brewers (9.5 games) than the Rockies have lost to the Dodgers (6 games). A reflection of both the Brewers’ recent otherworldliness and the Cubs’ mediocrity.

That’s fine, but when he assumes Jon Berti’s role in the bullpen, it will be a step too far.
