Yes, because voters love it when politicians tell them they should consume less. Rationing is an absolute vote-winner. And every politician that has run on a platform of degrowth has received a stunning mandate.

I helped push through London's segregated cycling. So yes: Take. That. Bike. But know that by doing so you making virtually zero difference to oil demand. Do the numbers. 1-2% increase in city biking by young men is noise. And my goodness cyclists make a lot of noise about themselves!
What are the consequences for energy markets and the transition of a potential long disruption to the Strait of Hormuz? TLDR: It’s a *lot* easier to replace 20% of LNG (15% of natgas supply) with wind and solar than it is to replace 20% of oil with EVs. mliebreich.substack.com/p/thoughts-o...
No, we are not in agreement. The first rule of safety engineering is not standards: it is not putting people in hazardous situations. That and "What you don't have, can't leak." You have a long learning road ahead of you, I wish you luck. Don't respond or I'll just block you.
I have no idea what you are talking about. I'm just telling you that this is no environment for mixing experimental technology, tonnes of life-threatening toxic fuel, the general public, and no evacuation options. Get real, dude.

Ammonia's atomic weight and density might make it a better choice in some ways than hydrogen. But the idea of a ship losing power and drifting around Lofoten with 500 people and tanks full of anhydrous ammonia is not something I would be promoting.
“in the absence of power demand growth, growth in wind and solar power would compensate for the loss of LNG passing through the Strait of Hormuz in just 9 months.”

The Strait of Hormuz is turning into the key test of strength between the US and Iran. I've been thinking about what happens if it stays closed for an extended period. My conclusions might surprise you.

Today's #HydrogenSoufflé comes to you from Norway. In 2022 the Public Roads Administration awarded a 4.9bn NOK ($520 million) contract for 2 #hydrogen ferries. Internal documents found by NRK show the fuel cell lifetime may be less than 10% of the 7.5 years promised.

Sure, though check if Version 6 is out before you publish. All railways will be on the Row of Doom.
Read my point. It's not about investment returns, it's about physics.
As for your point about the 1800s, it's just silly. They had nothing like modern battery technology (or electricity availability). Honestly the determination of some people to support hydrogen mystifies me. We don't use steam engines any more because of physics. Physics *matters*.
There is no way to get liquid hydrogen to airports in the volume required to serve airlines. Liquid hydrogen in a pipeline would instantly regasify. Local liquifaction (not even production) would require GWs of power. Liquid hydrogen bowser trucks would need to arrive every minute or two. Forget it.
Hydrogen trains are dead meat, even their manufacturers have stopped trying to push them. Where they have been introduced is been a reliability disaster. Where there are tricky bits of routes to electrify, trains are carrying batteries. In India, 99% of India's broad-guage track is electrified.
Here's medium and heavy-duty trucks versus EVs on the same scale. For a couple of years you could could see a few pixels, but then sales crashed, energy in China, the leading market. There is nothing in the data to support belief in hydrogen FCVs.
If you don't like my reasons for the utter failure of #hydrogen FCVs to sell more than a few thousand units (despite 50 years of being funded and promoted), you can make up your own!
Only in London.

Happy #IWD! This week @cleaninguppod.bsky.social released two episodes featuring women leaders: I spoke with Hilde Tonne, chair of Arup, and Bryony Worthington and I discussed Iran. Here is a playlist with over 50 incredible women climate and energy leaders:

I can't see the post. It's from someone I blocked, which I only do when people are persistent, aggressive, wrong and above all dull.

My mum turns 95 next month. She's been selling antique prints and maps for 50 years, but has decided to call time. She's offering 25% off everything on Kittyprint, let's give her career a big sendoff!
