So if using AI actually does erode human cognition the way studies suggest, then it's a feature instead of a bug?
The world is gross enough without "take away people's ability to think so we can sell it back to them" being on the list.
You have to wonder what kind of legal advice she was receiving... 🙄
This might be the greatest split-screen ever broadcast.
They’ll play this in museums in future.

Yeah, that was my thought - surely it depends on your monitor and graphics card etc?

“She’s the exception, I am the rule.”
Such articulate cutting through of the nonsense around puberty blockers and eg Keira Bell’s detransitioning from Stephanie Lynnette on GMB this morning. It is also a refreshing relief to see a trans person actually being allowed to speak for once!
“My colleagues and I have found that the more people learn about how AI’s back end works—the datasets, training process, prompting—the less comfortable they are with the moral considerations surrounding these creations and the value of AI-generated pieces.”
Finally pleased to announce my latest journal article (really pleased, this time!), now that it's finally #OpenAccess - as it should have been all along! 📚
It's about why we can't really 'decolonise' our institutions whilst still enmeshed in the thoroughly Western knowledge production cycle.
Here's a T. Rex bored to death trying to bite their own tail. My partner asked me to animate it in stop motion, after she watched a video about the very important topic of "could T. Rex chew its own tail like a dog". The puppet is still a work in progress 🦖
My humble submission to the new Bank of England with concepts for the new bank notes to please both sides.
I agree with every single damn word of this. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
You know you want to!
This is such a valuable resource! I’m surprised (and also not really surprised) that such a thing didn’t exist previously.
Register your personality in Guernsey under their Images Rights Ordinance, and then threaten to sue Grammerly (or better yet, do it)!
Wow, the metrification and KPI-chasing of UK universities reaches a new low. SHU quite clearly only cares about the REF, not their students and teaching. This is appalling.
I love your kid. And by extension, your parenting. High five! 🙌
We've a right treat up our sleeve, our next event is on the 18th March 10:30-2:30. This online mini conference is a mix of lightning talks & presentations

I’d vote for this. It’d be awesome, like the Thomas Crown Affair on steroids.
YES. Nails it exactly.
Elsevier rejections: libraries ‘had to make cuts somewhere’.
Experts say publisher’s pricing and profits are likely factors in rejection by some universities.

1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus by Charles C. Mann
This puts me at 10 people released. I filed my 1st habeas petition 29 days ago. I am an incredibly small-time, nobody lawyer who knew nothing about immigration law the day I submitted that case. I barely know any more today. I had never sued the federal government and now I've beaten them 10 times.
oh good i was worried it was white supremacy and capitalism
I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.
I can't compete with this.
One of the things I find fascinating about the "you need to learn to use AI or you'll be left behind" crowd is that everyone I know who has been forced to use it has said that the only way to use it in a way that actually results in time savings is to know the field extremely well.
Big news: @newcastleuni.bsky.social has joined the Open Book Collective as our latest Library Supporter! 🙌 Support like this helps us make scholar-led, non-commercial OA book publishing a genuinely viable and sustainable alternative - so thanks, Newcastle, welcome aboard! 📚 #OpenAccess #DiamondOA
Get you a man who’ll get extra pickles on his burger, even though he hates them, so you can steal them… 😍
there's so much bad in the world but there's also people who lift up and carry an elderly bat around every day so he can pretend he's flying again, and that's the part of the world I think is worth fighting for
