Pieces of the Bayeux Tapestry stolen by a Nazi scientist during the occupation of France were recently returned. The small fragments were presented to the mayor of Bayeux on January 15.

The Bayeux Tapestry will be returning to England for the first time in nearly a millennia. The British Museum will display the tapestry from September 2026 to July 2027 while the Bayeux Museum is undergoing renovations.

Who Aelfgyva and the cleric perhaps caressing or striking her face were is not known to us. Their stories have been lost to the sands of time but this affecting scene beneath an ornate arch endures.
