We disaggregate the global results into country clusters by income. Median results show the richest 20% of countries (home to 15% of people) are responsible for over 40% of ecological overshoot in 2017, while the poorest 40% (home to 42% of people) experience more than 60% of global deprivation. 3/

We analyse 35 global indicators, 2000-2022. Median results show sluggish progress in ending human deprivation, which must *speed up fivefold* to meet global goals by 2030, while rapid ecological damage must *reverse at nearly twice the current pace* to safeguard a stable planet by mid-century. 2/

‘It feels cool to be a cog in change’: how doughnut economics is reshaping a Swedish town A casual mention of Kate Raworth’s theory has grown into the basis for decision making in Tomelilla

A little town in Sweden - Tomelilla - is pioneering what it means to put Doughnut Economics into practice. This could well become inspiration to many towns and villages seeking to create a different kind of future... @doughnuteconomics.bsky.social www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Hi Matthew - totally agree, these times are not uniquely tough, and so I didn't say so. But they are not so easy either.

If you're searching for inspiration in these extraordinarily challenging times, look to the possibilities that history holds. This deeply thought-provoking book by my favourite social philosopher (yes he's my partner) is now out in paperback. A powerful summer read awaits @romankrznaric.bsky.social
