It was a Pied Wagtail flying past with its lovely undulating flight.

The House Sparrows were up early bathing in the dirt and then the bird bath again. It's become a morning routine for them.

A newly fledged House Sparrow

A group of House Sparrows dust bathing in the soil by the olive tree. Dirt all over the path. Then they descended on the bird bath and turned it into a mud bath.

I guess so. The local House Sparrows start behaviour after a Sparrowhawk's taken one. After a few days they forget and sit on top of the hedge again. I've been reading about urban birds exhibiting a reduced fear response towards aerial predators. I wonder if they stay high to avoid the local cats.

From my window I can see a Herring Gull perched on top of the cross on the nearby Church (which really does have bats in its belfry). There are also House Sparrows popping their heads up from the hedge.

They might be gone for another year but always good to post videos of Puffins from this summer on the Isle of May

It was the Herring Gulls raging war in the skies at around 4 AM. A juvenile gull had unfortunately wandered into the territory of an established pair and only just escaped with minor scrapes. Others screamed their raucous cries from various rooftops.

The Bass Rock off the Lothian coast is home to the world’s largest Gannet colony and it’s an insane place dominated by one species…

A Pied Wagtail again only this time on my garden wall, its tail constantly bobbing up and down as it made its contact call.

57 House Sparrows sitting on top of the high hedge near my house. The top of the hedge has become a hunting ground to the local urban Sparrowhawk of late but the House Sparrows remain defiant. They definitely see it as their hedge.

❗Yesterday, we responded to reports that NatureScot has granted a licence to allow the killing of up to 500 baby gannets.

The news that the traditional guga hunt had been approved to return later this year gained significant media coverage & raised public awareness of this archaic practice.

A pair of juvenile Herring Gulls sitting on my neighbours car bonnet. There were Swallows, House Martins and Swifts outside my local nature reserve but the Sand Martins have already departed.

This is a young Kittiwake which has just recently fledged from its nest on the Isle of May… stunning birds :)

Some devastating news today.

Earlier this year the First Minister @johnswinney.bsky.social said "nature should be at the heart of climate action". This decision flies in the face of that.
