I am really looking forward to the audiobook! Ray always does a killer job with your books.
That's also my least favorite trope. I was really annoyed with a recent horror movie with that trope that is getting good reviews. I won't say which because I don't want to ruin it for folks. I'm guessing this book is one to avoid for me.
I'm so sorry for your loss, Kate. I can think of a million other things to tell you but none of it makes it any easier to bear. Condolences.
I think I read this one last year and felt the same way. It was.. fine. Wasn't impressed. In the end I was like REALLY? π the blurb about the book was more interesting than the actual book. All the characters were annoying and I would have been fine with them all dying in a fire.
"I wanted oblivion and all I got was this dent in my head."
How mad would you be if you only ended up with half a hole in your head π
....1.5?
I haven't listened to the audio for this one and now I think I will, thanks!
Did you enjoy it?
There are so many you've posted where I'm like yes but explanation wanted? π
IT WAS SO BAD. I really love cosmic horror so I was really into it until the ending. A bad ending can ruin the whole thing for me.
Almost makes me want to relisten except that will piss me off so much once I notice. Fuck that.
Where did you listen to it? I don't remember AI narration. I also liked it up until the end. Wtf was that, it needed to be wrapped up!
I saw it recently recommended on a list for must read sci-fi in the last 5 years, so apparently it's seen as genre busting now, so even more folks will pick it up. I thought it was fun.
I have an update! I went looking for All These Subtle Deceits and it was hard to find. I found C.S. Humble's email on a subreddit and reached out. He sent me both books in the series! I'm thrilled and so excited to get started on them. I will definitely post reviews. Thanks again for recommending!
Thank you! I have only read one of these so far. That's exactly what I was looking for.
Hi, I am also not on insta. Can you share your recs for Revival please?
Totally agree with you! Very little scares me and I still love horror! For all the reasons you noted. Horror is about the content and not that I find it scary (although other people may still find it scary).
Definitely not the kind of A LOT I want to deal with right now π
Woowww no thanks
Thanks for making me even more glad I avoided this one?
Well damn. It's a maybe for me then.
I was looking at reviews and folks seem to generally agree it ended rather abruptly?
Worth a read?
There's also a paperback version, is it widely available? (Retailers other than Amazon?)
Also curious, do you plan to add an audio version? I'd be interested in it.
I find a lot of Stephen King stories that way, too. His ideas are great as shorter stories, and often don't need longer versions. So I get what you're saying.
This book is (maybe was, now) in my TBR pile. I kept putting it off because it's currently a little too close to home. Not worth the read?
Do iiiiit.. add some fun shit to our feeds please!
ME TOO
I love Grady Hendrix but I had a hard time with it too. I kept waiting for the weird spooky shit to show up. I'm not sure I liked it. Instead of the escapist horror I wanted/needed I got the real deal, too real. It's a story that must be told, I just don't know if *I* needed to read it right now.
