I write short stories and children's picture books. (I have a blog about picture books: https://itsapicturebookworld.com/ ) I write, edit, and review educational materials. I have more dog friends than human friends. I like to bake.

You're certainly welcome. (I might be interested in the workshop, depending on details.)
14.10.2025 19:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just a quick note: a couple of the links in the Fine Print section did not work for me--both the past issues link and the link for the environmental writers' workshop led to 404 not found messages. Thanks!
14.10.2025 18:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This morning I learned that one of my pieces of flash fiction was a winner in a fall/Halloween-themed contest: www.choeofpleirnpress.com/harvest-harm...

17.06.2025 23:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thousands of protesters filled the street near City Hall and spilled into the park behind the Bellingham downtown library branch Saturday, joining millions of people nationwide in the 'No Kings Day' protest.

23.05.2025 00:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yesterday Bag of Bones Press accepted my short story "The Man With the Face Tattoo" for their Patterns anthology. (As the titles of the story and name of the publisher may suggest, it is dark fiction/horror.)
22.05.2025 19:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Very cool. Congratulations. May I ask when you're open to submissions? (I've reviewed your MSWL, and have some picture books that seem to align with it.)
22.05.2025 19:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A small bit of good news. One of my picture book manuscripts won an honorable mention in a contest: kelliebeggs.weebly.com/blog

11.04.2025 02:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0May I ask for clarification? The ASH Literary site says, "Paula is currently closed to queries..." Is that accurate? Meaning, may I send a picture book query your way or not? Thanks.
10.04.2025 21:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Oh, the same company has a lecture series on the Negro Leagues. One of those lectures covers post-Emancipation ball, when the play was relatively integrated. (Not prejudice free, but with some mixed play.)
08.04.2025 05:10 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0If your public library has Kanopy, there's a lecture series by the Great Courses company called Play Ball! It's on the history of baseball. One lecture is titled "Black Baseball Before the Negro Leagues."
08.04.2025 05:08 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And you're right, though: baseball is interwoven with civil rights. Douglass's son often played against Octavius Catto's team. (Oh, I don't know of any pictures of the ball teams, but here's a newspaper account:
portofharlem.net/snippets23/j... )
You probably know this, but just in case, Frederick Douglass's son played on some early pro teams, and Douglass was an honorary member of the Mutual Base Ball Club.
08.04.2025 02:53 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0Thank you for clearing that up.
07.04.2025 20:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0How? Isn't that more people than live in Bolivia? (Very, very cool!)
