Yes! And this is in part why I've long wanted to teach a class on small media — because compression presents interesting technical, epistemological + ontological challenges; because small stuff creates aesthetic possibilities + allows for 😈 distribution... Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.
I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.

There is a folded piece of paper in front of the bowls that says “which chip is your favorite?” The paper has been folded and written on to include experimental feedback, including:
“Bowl maybe a confound?”
“I agree, teal is prettier. Bowl position should be counterbalanced”
“The chips are the same!!! (I think) (stop trying to trick me)”
“Fold and vote after tasting- don’t look @ results and be biased!”

I was so lucky to know him, and I am grateful every day that he (and Gillian, and Walt, etc) built an academic field where kindness is expected.
