In this article, I look at a male Taiwanese influencer who has mocked a Vietnamese accent of Mandarin in his fictional character of a Vietnamese female migrant spouse, which sparked racial controversy.
In memorial, Sherry Ash talks about the time that Bill Labov and a colleague carefully designed an experiment to analyze drunk speechโฆso they drank a shot of whiskey, read a passage, & recorded it, repeatedly. Unsurprisingly, the paper was never published, but it was methodologically sound! #LSA2025
