"adventures in babysitting" as opposed to "Elisabeth Shue and the case of reckless child endangerment"

07.08.2025 21:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I don't feel like posting stats at the moment, but she has a high Dex and Endurance, a pretty good Survival, and Gun Combat (Energy) 2, which is pretty strong for Traveller.
She's also a good driver and is capable of drinking you under the table.
A woman in super high robotic heels, wearing a pink and yellow spandex suit. Over this are leathers, a backpack, a hat, and a buckskin knife. She's carrying a super high tech laser rifle. She's chewing on a piece of wheat.
Some people colour before going to bed. Me? I make a character in traveller and then make a mini for them.
This is Francine, but if you call her anything but "Frankie" she'll slug ya. She's been in Scout services for so long, and developed a weird sense of style.
Stealth is not a concern.
Currently reading "The Borderlands Run", where the PCs have to transport a person across pirate infested space with a heavy dose of politics, criminal underground, and economics.
I think I've found my winner.
Just ordered three Traveller adventures, trying to figure out which would be best to kick off a Pirates of Drinax campaign.
Got the pdfs for free, and reading em now. Really like the quality of them.
INDIANA JONES CRYSTAL SKULL. About fifteen minutes in, a guy stood up loudly and said "no, no, no, fuck this I'm leaving" until his girlfriend pulled him back down.
That guy was me.
Picture of a plate laden with food, taken outside. There are fresh cucumbers and red pepper, a pickle, some pita bread baked with olive oil, a few slices of a baguette, Greek rice another baguette slice, a lentil and chicken tagine with sumac and berbere topped with pickled red onions, and an arugula salad topped with quinoa and corn.
Quick Mediterranean dish I whipped up in half an hour (using lots of preexisting pickles, breads, and cut greens).
Super healthy, and tastes great. π½οΈ
Petty Officer Jarne, retired, of the Imperial Navy. A blue clad officer, saber at his side, in a flowing overcoat. He wears a naval hat, and has a pensive look on his face. His arms are folded behind his back. He's a traveller character, a gunnery noncom with over 25 years in the service.
Making character miniatures on Hero Forge, because I'm bored and can't get to sleep. As one does.
05.08.2025 07:19 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh, it's BC Day today. Or, as my phone's calendar calls it, "Civic/Provincial Day (regional) + Heritage Day (Alberta)".
04.08.2025 14:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I read it as a sort of homage to Agatha Christie type novels. It's a fun clue, and I'll try and use it when I eventually run it.
Good point about the craftsmanship. Something I'll keep in mind!
Honestly, that's a perfect place for, like, a crafting nook. Or a mini library. I like it (also, its existence suggests that the house has a cool roof, and I like cool roofs)
04.08.2025 05:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My buddy said he saw it happen in the 80s. You know how that goes.
Be careful. If PETA finds out you're branding rats, thingsll get messy. ;)
It's a really cool format for a mystery adventure and the first time I've encountered it. Listing murder weapons, alibis, and using suspects as red herrings. Super clever stuff.
Good luck on your adventure, it sounds rad as hell!
Happy August! One month of summer quarter left, and we're making the most of it. Lots of great events this month and the last of the summer cafe specials (& associated cold brew homebrew kit)! π§΅

Ever hear of the Head of Vecna?
So there's a hand and an eye of Vecna, and many a player has cut off a limb to replace it with Vecnas, and gain amazing powers.
The head is exactly that, and a buddy of mine knew a player who unhesitatingly cut off his own head so he could replace it with Vecnas.
Oh brother.
04.08.2025 05:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I always love seeing spaceships on my feed.

04.08.2025 05:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0All in all, I'm super impressed with the quality of the adventures I've read so far for Mongoose Traveller - Death Station, the Fall of Tinath, and the Marooned! module.
Though the last two are definitely not for me, I still like how they're done.
Anyways, yeah, go Traveller! 7/7
The fact that there's a whole bit about an ashtray and which brands of cigarettes the suspects like to smoke, and the fact that an analog clock is smashed to show what time the guy died (in the super far future) definitely shows that this part of the adventure was originally written in the 1980s. 6/
04.08.2025 05:05 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0My bigger issue is that there's no denouement, no conclusion written into things. The investigator you plead your case to isn't really detailed, and the module sort of falls flat because of this. Plus, we don't get a bit on what happens to the station afterwards
Not a big deal, just a peeve.

I really have only two issues with the adventure... And one has nothing to do w the adventure itself.
See, it's set in an asteroid system, and there are pretty much NO such systems in the entire Trojan Reach (where my campaign will be set). I've got a hack, though, so this is SUPER minor.

Here's Seth's review of the book, which he wrote part of and adapted the second half (originally from, like, the 80s) to the new ruleset. 3/
youtu.be/O4zoiDztAPQ?...
There's also an intro adventure, written by @sskorkowsky.bsky.social , that has the PCs investigating the aftermath of a heist, and setting up the main adventure.
Its also really good, and the special mining ships in the appendix are super useful - I'll probably use them when we start playing. 2/
Mysteries of Arcturus Station is one of the best RPG modules I've ever read. It gives you a setting (a mining colony in an asteroid belt), a victim (a douchebag bureaucrat) and 20 suspects.
The GM picks who did it and how, and the module gives you hints on setting it all up.
It's VERY cool.
Two spools of single-ply hand-spun yarn are wound thickly onto two long wooden dowels. The spool on the left is variegated purples, blues, and a deep wine red. The spool on the right is black. The ends of each spool sit neatly in the hand-holes of a small wooden crate...a sort of make-shift lazy kate if you will. Lying across the upper left corner of the crate is a handmade wooden drop spindle with the beginnings of two-ply stripey yarn.
Check out my makeshift #LazyKate! It's working perfectly to hold the two strands I'm plying together into a skein π§Ά I'm #spinning for my other mother. I managed to get over 1000yds out of the coloured #fibers, so I'm hoping it's enough for her to MAKE something with! #knitting #crochet #FiberArt
04.08.2025 03:38 β π 21 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Just bought a whole buttload of tomatoes and fresh produce from the farmers market, as well as a local wine. Prices aren't that much higher than they'd be at the grocery store, and it's entirely local.
02.08.2025 21:19 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0For those keeping score at home:
The first "sorry" was because I asked why she was buying so many mason jars.
The second was because she told me she was making "apple jelly" and I didn't know what that was.
The third was because I didn't have my applesauce recipe on hand to share with her.
I didn't even get out of the tutorial before I noped out. I might give it another shot, but it really doesn't feel like my jam.
That said, it's cool to see ppl cosplaying as characters for a franchise that ~isnt~ Japanese, American, or sci fi military.
Oh man, that'd be slick. Add some cocktails and chicken wings, and it'd be the best night ever.
