CHICAGO (October 14, 2025) β A 15-year-old American citizen was detained by Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents today in a manner reminiscent of authoritarian regimes, holding him incommunicado in a federal building garage for five hours without informing his family, stating any charges, or allowing him to call an attorney. The teenager, who is Hispanic and African American, was grabbed off a Chicago East Side street at approximately 12:30 p.m. CST slammed to the ground, kneed in the back, and zip-tied by CBP agents. He was then transported to a federal law enforcement facility not affiliated with CBP or ICE, where CBP agents held him, handcuffed, in the back of a vehicle in a garageβnever booking him, never reading him his rights, never stating why he was detained, and never allowing him to contact his mother.
For five hours, his mother had no idea where her son was or whether he safe. Federal agents provided no information about his whereabouts, no phone call, no explanation for the arrest. His motherβs terror was amplified by her sonβs heart condition and the complete absence of any information from authorities.
"This is how people disappear in autocraciesβgrabbed off streets, held in unmarked locations, no calls to family, no stated charges, no due process," said Founding Partner Antonio M. Romanucci of Romanucci & Blandin, the firm that obtained his release this evening. "A 15-year-old American citizen was effectively 'disappeared' for five hours in Chicago. This is not law enforcement; this is the playbook of authoritarian regimes."
The 15 y/o detained by CBP today in the East Side neighborhood has been released per a statement from his attorneys.

Released from jail late at night
Over the last five years, the number of people released from the Cook County jail late at night has steadily increased.
new:
for the @chicagoreader.comβs night issue, @djbyrnes1.bsky.social wrote about the trend of people getting released from the cook county jail increasingly late at night.
between may 2020 and july 2025, more than twice as many people were released between 8 pm-5 am than between 5 am-8 pm.

Epic
I just checked and this is real. It's on Border Patrol's official Instagram (I don't see it on Facebook) and is being celebrated by Nazis on Twitter, as you can see in the screenshot.
The clip is just 13 seconds long too, so it's a very intentional thing. We've got a Nazi government.

Wow. Trump's masked federal agents tear-gassed a crowd in Chicago and ended up gassing a bunch of local Chicago cops who were there to *deescalate tensions.* One local cop was captured on film washing out his eyes with a hose:

Last thing we need is another grandstanding "leader" with no plan.

Judge Perry says she will issue an oral ruling now and a formal ruling tomorrow.
Perry says the state's temporary restraining order against national guard deployment will be granted, "in part," with a fuller ruling to follow tomorrow.
09.10.2025 21:36 β π 194 π 55 π¬ 1 π 2
Perry cites the TRO won against federal agents in Judge Sara Ellis' courtroom this week for 1A and 4A violations, as well as criminal cases recently dismissed against protestors.
These cases "cast significant doubt" on DHS' account of what is happening in Chicago, Perry says.
09.10.2025 21:52 β π 169 π 44 π¬ 2 π 4
Acknowledging that vandalism and attacks on ICE agents have likely occurred, Perry still finds that DHS' version of events is "simply unreliable."

Perry:"What troubles me about that reading of the statute is, if the executive branch chose to deploy one ICE agent to the Chicagoland area, and then that person was unable to solve all crime," then that could trigger the National Guard.
Hamilton says that's a "very different situation."
09.10.2025 17:46 β π 466 π 43 π¬ 5 π 3
Perry asks again whether, if the inability to execute the law is b/c of the feds' "own provocation, does that matter under the law?"
Hamilton: "No, if that were true, the fact still remains that we are seeing sustained violence against federal personnel and property in Illinois."
09.10.2025 17:29 β π 506 π 74 π¬ 19 π 15
Perry: "I am very much struggling to figure out where this would ever stop, because the plaintiffs really believe that it's not going to just stop with that. You haven't told me it's just going to stop with that."
09.10.2025 17:24 β π 413 π 63 π¬ 3 π 2
Perry asks, what if the president is relying on "completely invalid evidence?"
"What if DHS folks are not tethered to reality in their assessment of events. Does that matter?"
Hamilton: "A couple points β¦"

Perry: "You all are reserving the right that they could do all the other things the president has said they'll be able to do. β¦Β When I try to nail down with you which specific of those things might still be on the table, you've kind of said, 'Well, I don't know.'"

My spicy take for this moment-
Too many of you do not understand the concept of infrastructure. How systems are built, how systems are maintained.
You want big bold action but haven't committed to the planning and the boring mundane tasks needed to make said action possible.

Rosalio Pelayo Salgado was detained on Sept. 10. His daughter said he described being called slurs and having his anxiety medication taken away.
βPelayo said her dad described being held in a room with at least 150 other men as ICE officers constantly yell at them and call them slurs. He also told his daughters detainees are only given food and water based on good behavior.β
