It’s not only a question of being perfectly historically accurate but also of exploiting an original material that is waaaaaaay cooler than whatever this is? It’s wrong, sure… but worse of all, it’s boring.

I want to add that this… 19th century… vision of a *marble white* antiquity is rooted in some questionable co-opting of the Greek and Roman world.
It’s just a shame it seems that he didn’t even try. Ryan Coogler did a better job at it in Eyes of Wakanda and he didn’t even have to. SMH.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I think lately movies have trouble finding balance between esthetics and story telling. It’s Del Toro with gorgeous movies & clunky pace or Nolan with the opposite (I hope) : great epic with (problematic) bleached imagery of Greek Bronze Age

For those commenting that "it's fictional so Nolan shouldn't bring history into it", if fantasy books that made their way to the big screen (ex: LOTR) could be done with accuracy to what the author wrote, it can be done especially when we have evidence from this period. Not saying everything needs to be 100% Bronze Age but I'm hoping for a middle ground rather than what is being captured. To the ancient peoples, this was an epic that may have captured their interests from an older oral tradition and to simply state its fictitious when Hollywood has done other fiction well, screams laziness especially if the director touts about bringing in "realism" Reply
