Even when Henson was talking, if he was operating Kermit at the time, the frog was never completely still. You always got the sense that he was just waiting for his turn to talk. Extraordinary.

Thirty-five years ago, Kermit's voice was also Wrong in all the new Muppet content. Any guesses as to why?

Likewise. Not sure I still qualify as young seeing as how I grew up with Kermit 1.0, but thanks the same.

And you can pick or choose what you like. Stick with what you prefer or open your eyes to new possibilities and take the rough along with the smooth. We all have our favorites but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy new content, even if it's not exactly the same.

And think of all the reboots we've seen. How many incarnations of Batman, Superman, and Spiderman have we had by now? Just give yourself whatever time you need to adjust.

Bernadette Peters was also a lovely guest, and John Denver was practically a Muppet himself. They treated him like family and did at least two specials with him.

Plus, by this time most of the Muppets are on their 2nd or 3rd handler. Dave Goelz may be the only one of the original Muppeteers who still performs his signature character, Gonzo. And I wonder if he's training a successor for the future.

Agreed. And the same could be said for far too many of his supporters.

I grew up with Henson's Kermit, so yes, Whitmire's was a big adjustment for me. MCC was too soon for me to accept a non-Henson Kermit, but Whitmire grew into the part over the years. Maybe Vogel will too.

I think the guests who fared best on the classic show understood that they'd entered the Muppets' world and were playing by their rules.

Then it's time to let go of it, so fresh eyes can look it over.

A generation before you had to transition from Henson's Kermit to Whitmire's Kermit, made even harder by the knowledge that Jim was gone. Adjusting was difficult but doable, given time.

One guest star on the classic show said that Kermit felt absolutely real when they interacted. And Carol Burnett said she was legit terrified of Animal.

It was a decent effort, and the Muppets felt more like themselves than they have in a while. They still need to find a headwriter as strong as the late Jerry Juhl. But I'd definitely watch more of this incarnation.

The one I'm tired of, simply because it's so overused right now, is the too-cutesy "grumpy-sunshine." There are other ways for a couple to be dramatically different. What's wrong with using "Opposites attract"?

Whitmire was given the time to grow into the role. Vogel should be granted the same chance. Henson's Kermit will always be the definitive one for me, but his successors keep the character going and that's a good thing. Most Muppets are on their 2nd or 3rd handler by this point anyway.
