With the Twin Cities Under Siege, Restaurants Become Hubs of Solidarity - Racket Restaurants, bars, and coffee shops are collecting donations, handing out whistles, and acting as gathering sites for volunteers and observers.

pow wow grounds, moona moono, briar bar, a bar of their own—i spoke with these folks and many more about their role in this ongoing federal invasion, and about the "overwhelming support" and "massive" scale of donations that are flooding in to support immigrants, organizers, and ICE observers.

An end to the male loneliness epidemic? Previously aimless and disaffected young men and boys are finding companionship by driving around together to tail the goon squads and warn their neighbors.

Hot Five: Call for Community Submissions We're looking for our readers to help us tell stories of food, drink, and immigration this week.

This week we're calling for reader-submitted Hot Five briefs about food and drink from immigrant-run restaurants, food trucks, and markets. We're casting a wide net to support these cornerstone businesses. heavytable.substack.com/p/hot-five-c...

Please don't comment on decades old FB posts because the olds think it's new and it gets weird.

Binge watched The Four Seasons on Netflix and followed it up with The Four Seasons the movie from 1981. Alan Alda wrote some awesome stuff about the twists and turns of friendships and relationships. ☺️ 🤗

Sarah Rue as the Attorney General in Idiocracy gesturing with her hands and saying "it's got electrolytes"

Heat wave alert! If you feel like driving around this weekend to help your unsheltered neighbors, heads up that Powerade makes freeze pops with electrolytes and they freeze faster if you lay them in single layers! You can really help people survive this ❤️

Iran Join Rick as he explores the most surprising and fascinating land he's ever visited: Iran. In a one-hour, ground-breaking travel special on public television, you'll discover the splendid monuments of...

In the spring of 2008, I feared America was on the verge of war with Iran — and, believing that it’s good style to get to know people before you bomb them, I made “Rick Steves’ Iran,” a one-hour special that could (and would) only debut on PBS. Sadly, this special has become pertinent again today.

Found an email I sent to a co-op back in 2007 suggesting 8 detailed ways they can attract younger members. This was after I attended 2 board meetings made up of old people who rejected new ideas.

Instead of the Microsoft Outlook reminder perpetually saying the meeting is "Now", it should say "5 minutes ago" so I know how late I am to the meeting.

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

If not immigration enforcement, then why immigration enforcement shaped?

I understand the hate for "big lights" but I can't see in the dim or the dark. Anyone else?

I find it super weird that these parents have to be buzzed or drunk at all times. Very not cute.

Ugh. I despise stevia and monk fruit sweeteners. So sorry. I know this pain.

Today I had headshots at work and the session was max of 20 seconds. Not holding my breath on this one. 😬

"Hidden gem" continues. This time my 17-yo nephew asked me if I have ever been to Normandale Japanese Garden because he saw a "hidden gem" video. I've been there. In fact, I got married there. 💍 💕

It's always fascinating (ok fine, sometimes enraging) that there's a suburban discussion on if Minneapolis is "back" yet or not.

Um...we've always been here and it's been "back" for years. SMH.

I really miss live-tweeting events. I miss being a hype squad for people taking risks and public speaking or sharing innovative ideas.
