Ridiculous and appalling that Open Ai, amongst other GenAi companies, think they can dictate how THEY use OUR works.
No, Open Ai, it should not be authors and copyright holders opting out of your exploitative models. It should be you, Open Ai, asking authors and copyright holders to opt IN.
Great news!

Trick or treat bags and Advent Calendars have arrived at @diceenvy.bsky.social and our office is tiny and so so full already.
We ordered HALF the boxes we'll need this year, arriving tomorrow, and I have no idea where we'll put them. All of my tetris stress dreams have come true. 🥲

If "AI" was as valuable as they say it is, they wouldn't be selling it to you. They'd be using it themselves in secret to make the next Minecraft, the next Avatar, the next Hello Kitty and then they'd sell that to you.
They're trying to sell you a sick goose, while pretending it lays golden eggs.
Happy 9th Birthday, Dice Envy!!
We're officially all about Minecraft and NOT into Paw Patrol anymore because THAT'S FOR BABIES.

Thanks much! I'll look into Launchboom, though I am very much open to talking with independent folks who run kickstarters as well!

Woof, got our first tariff invoices in today. They suck as much, if not a little more than we expected.
(bonus suck from the fees the shipping companies tacked on for having to generate the invoice)
The Hasbro OGL fiasco. The fragmentation of social media. The onslaught of AI slop. The ever-evolving threat of tariffs. Attempted rollbacks of safety nets.
It's a minor miracle any small-time creators are left in this industry. Send best wishes to a #ttrpg creator today because times are tough.
To be clear, Dave is still around, he's just got other projects he's excited about right now.
15.04.2025 21:44 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I feel like @diceenvy.bsky.social CEO transitions are cursed. When Dave took paternity leave and handed the reins to @aabria.bsky.social, the pandemic struck. When he first talked to me about taking over, suddenly all of LA was on fire. And now I've begun running things: tariff hell.
Cursed. 😮💨
Just returned from Dark Library: Paris 1925, an interactive musical experience in one of Gertrude Stein's salons, with a cast of literary greats to rub elbows and clink glasses with. I cannot recommend it highly enough, if you're in the LA/ North Hollywood area.

05.04.2025 22:48 — 👍 280 🔁 38 💬 5 📌 6" On April 5th, a 54% tariff goes into effect on a wide range of goods imported from China. For those of us who create boardgames, this is not just a policy change. It's a seismic shift. At Steve Jackson Games, we are actively assessing what this means for our products, our pricing, and our future plans. We do know that we can't absorb this kind of cost increase without raising prices. We've done our best over the past few years to shield players and retailers from the full brunt of rising freight costs and other increases, but this new tax changes the equation entirely. Here are the numbers: A product we might have manufactured in China for $3.00 last year could now cost $4.62 before we even ship it across the ocean. Add freight, warehousing, fulfillment, and distribution margins, and that once-$25 game quickly becomes a $40 product. That's not a luxury upcharge; it's survival math. Some people ask, "Why not manufacture in the U.S.?" I wish we could. But the infrastructure to support full-scale boardgame production – specialty dice making, die-cutting, custom plastic and wood components – doesn't meaningfully exist here yet. I've gotten quotes. I've talked to factories. Even when the willingness is there, the equipment, labor, and timelines simply aren't."
Steve Jackson Games posted this to their blog and the post is getting so many hits their site is effectively crashed but the point is worth repeating
