1/2 Just a comment on the current news of the day. It is hypocritical for leftists to support abortion because it is "pro-choice" and also support bans on gay conversion therapy because it's "harmful to vulnerable people" (vice-versa for those on the right who argue the opposite).

Every crisis is an opportunity. This is the moment for Dems on Capitol Hill to call a news conference and make clear: Not one dime to fund the federal government until Trump withdraws his unlawful orders and agrees not to send troops to occupy Democratic-run cities

Agreed up until the end. Dehumanization is a fascist tactic that always leads to dark places...don't play their game. To what extent he is evil/criminal vs. mentally/physically ill I don't know - probably some of both, but he is a human the same as the rest of us and should be treated accordingly.

Whoever takes Trump's place when he dies will be far, far more dangerous than he ever was. Trump is too old, incompetent, and selfish to be a Hitler - he's more of a Mussolini. Whoever takes his place will be younger, smarter, and will be a "true believer" - that's your potential Hitler.

This is exactly why I've been saying that Trumpism will long outlast Trump himself. It's a Pandora's box. The whole movement must be so thoroughly defeated that it is repudiated by the bulk of his current supporters (enablers) before America (and the world) can ever be safe for democracy again.

Trump and the right wing bullshit machine working in high gear to motivate and justify a (potentially violent) federal response to unrest that is largely a figment of their imagination and (where it is real) a reaction to federal agitation. A vicious, intentional, and intensifying cycle.

ICE admits that up to 50% of arrests in its Chicago raids are "collateral.” These aren't statistics. They are parents taken from their children, neighbors taken from our communities. When does a "collateral" U.S. citizen child's trauma matter? This isn't law enforcement; it's a campaign of terror.

I feel like this headline with this picture on CNN right now embodies a much deeper truth right now, as if it were showing the clock's final "tick" from the Titanic. A series of movements towards the abyss, crystalized into a single moment. There is something haunting and deeply ominous about it.
