A sketch of the graph y = (2x + 6)/(x - 1)(x + 4) broken down into steps such as finding the x and y intercepts, and finding the vertical and horizontal asymptotes. The graph crosses the horizontal asymptote y = 0, which prompted some debate.

In #MathsToday we were graphing rational functions. I really enjoy teaching this topic, because the students get the big whiteboards out and draw the graphs in groups of 2 or 3. Lots of nice opportunities for discussions (including "I thought a graph couldn't cross an asymptote...")

In #ALevelMaths #MathsToday we used this geogebra file to model pulleys www.geogebra.org/m/regzpujq#m... - students got lots of satisfaction from setting the parameters and doing the calculations themselves. I canโ€™t seem to link the right pageโ€ฆor give credit to Mark Willis.

In #mathstoday we are embracing maths Week England!
Lots of puzzles, jokes and activities taking place during the week.
We started off with some puzzles (the date puzzle was a particular favourite) and watching a video of staff talking about when they use maths in their every day lives.
