“The tech companies say their training data is their trade secret. But my voice is not their trade secret”. This line stated by NAVA President Tim Friedlander while testifying for AB 412 perfectly encapsulates our stance. Our biometric data, our copywritten materials, and our voices belong to us.

Our friends over at NAVA Voices just testified in front of their state assembly in California, emphasising that AI affects the livelyhoods of creatives across ALL disciplines.

One thing we worked on is a different tool to complement Nightshade. We discovered a new attack on diffusion models that is more generalizable than Nightshade. It targets an entirely different part of AI training pipeline, basically making AI models poison themselves.

They also tend to liberally read and engage with chat.

The software library we're talking about here is specifically called Mellowtel, used by extension developers to get 💵kickbacks for scraping data.

It's not obvious to us how to get a list of extensions that use Mellowtel.

Now that more websites block AI crawlers, unscrupulous AI companies are now paying non-AI Browser Extension developers to add malware, that scrapes and sends website data to AI companies.

They piggyback off of real users visiting websites to grab the site data.

It's artists like you who inspire us to fight.

When we see human-made artwork on our feeds and IRL, when we see our peers' journeys and artistic growth, it fuels our desire for justice and a brighter future.

The AI moratorium is no longer part of the big bill spending bill.

Activists spent weeks calling their senators and representatives, writing letters, making a fuss, and it succeeded.

You are entirely correct.

Meta needs all the training data and talent it can get, but has no money to license copyrighted works for AI training.

They instead use everything on Instagram and Facebook, and potentially in the future: directly from your camera roll.

All of Meta's denials ultimately boil down to 'we are not CURRENTLY training AI on your camera roll'.

AI training should require clear and enthusiastic consent, not buried in the ambiguity of "will they/won't they".

Good day as any to delete Facebook, Instagram, and/or Threads if you have not already

For those not yet in the know, Vizcom is a generative ai program designed to slip right into the concept art process- the folks selling it are moving quickly & quietly to get it into as many studios as possible.
