LibDems favour maximum devolution not just to Scotland but all over the UK. I am personally against referenda on principle, but if parliament decides to have another then we shall have to fight against independence again. If Scotland were to vote to leave the UK we would accept democracy.

Actually, we were offered much advice by Labour, the party which introduced student fees and top up fees having promised not to and who have just increased them again. I accept that we were wrong in 2010 on this issue, but why is our mistake more egregious than Labour’s?

I have never said the issue shouldn’t be revisited. I personally think referenda are the tools of populists and dictators, but I accept that in this case a binding referendum would be needed. Oh, and by the way, I want the whole of the UK to join the EU, not just Scotland.

Actually no. Even Adam Smith didn’t have faith in an unfettered free market. LibDems believe in a regulated free market where as Smith put it β€˜the government holds the ring’. Neo liberals want no controls at all. That’s way different.

When the government didn't turn up to oppose Farage's bill to leave the ECHR, the LibDems led the charge to stop the bill. See Ed Davey's powerful speech against the bill

Elections for posts in the LibDems start today. My vote for President goes to Prue Bray and for Vice President Kamran Hussain. The other candidates are fine people but as new MPs they should be devoting their time to their voters not adding another full time job to their already heavy workload

And such a pity the UK won’t be there to enjoy its benefits

Well the SNP for one. They keep banging on about voting for them to get independence. I have no objection to another referendum but any such needs to set out in advance what constitutes a clear majority for it. Also you can’t have referenda every few years just because you don’t like the last result

So there has been an almighty cockup in releasing a man who was due to be deported. (Apparently he tried several times to return to prison but was turned away) Or could it be a conspiracy to divert attention from Reform’s rather poor performance in local and Welsh elections? We should be told.

Actually no. Liberals and LibDems have always seen the need to regulate the free market, recognising that unchecked free markets do not meet all needs. Gladstone nationalised the Post Office and Beveridge drew up the plans for the NHS. Lloyd George started National Insurance and old age pensions

LibDems may be many things but Neo Liberal isn’t one of them. More like Social Liberal

There was a referendum on Scottish independence. Independence was rejected, so Scotland remains a part of the UK. The Brexit referendum was a disaster for the UK. Sadly the terms were so badly drafted that a narrow majority overall determined that the UK left the EU inc Scotland.

I’ve never used Spotify, instagram, and have dumped X and Facebook. I only use Bluesky and Mastodon.

Er, no. We were not a split from Labour, that was the SDP. The Liberal Party, the main component on the LibDems have a history going back to 1857, long before Labour even thought of existing. Yes, there was a coalition with Cameron’s Tories, but that ended 10 years ago and would not be repeated.

LibDemvoice4women are a group of LibDem members supporting anti trans views. They are not a recognised group and have no official standing in the LibDems. LibDemWomen, on the other hand are a recognised group within the party and are a wholly inclusive group and most definitely not transphobic.

Paul Marshall is not and has not been for some time a LibDem. If you must attack LibDems at least do it on facts not fiction

Don’t associate Clegg with the LibDems. He has no role in the party nor does he speak for them. His views on artists are not LibDem ones. He speaks only for himself.

It’s not reduced hours. It’s the same number of hours but worked in 4 days rather than 5 days. Reduced days, yes. Reduced hours, no.

Time for all good people to give up Facebook and X. Stop supporting fascists and their lackeys. I have moved to bluesky and mastodon.
I urge my LibDem friends and colleagues to do the same. That includes the national party, the parliamentary parties and council groups, MPs and councillors

Goodness me. If you are going to attack the LibDems do it on the basis of fact not fiction. The LibDems would no more privatise the NHS than I would cut off my arm with a blunt knife with no anaesthetic. Where do you get such nonsense from.

I have been involved with the Libs/LibDems all my adult life. Of the thousands of LibDems I know, not a single one even thinks about CS, let alone mourns him. If you want to attack us, please do so on the basis of fact, not wild fantasy

True, but we are Liberals and welcome converts, including those from Labour. As the bible says β€˜there shall be more rejoicing over one sinner that repenteth than for 9 and 90 just men (people)’

But obviously you’ve forgiven Labour for introducing tuition and top up fees and the Iraq war.

Since Labour are not only not following their manifesto but actually doing things they said they wouldn’t, then responsible oppositions point out the alternatives and offer their solutions. It’s called Parliamentary Democracy.

No, Swinson was making the correct point that the UK is a parliamentary system, not a referendum system and if she had been elected as PM then that would be taken to mean that Brexit could be abandoned. Clearly the electorate did not support that view and she lost her seat to boot.
