This weekend a River Forest family generously opened their home so neighbors could meet us & hear our story. 

This campaign values each & every voice across the district. I will represent our community with compassion, empathy, & a passion for a better future for Chicagoans everywhere.

(2/4) Instead of putting aside partisan differences in the interest of the American people, Trump took out his petty grievances by directly attacking our public transit system, a key pillar of our city’s economy and Chicagoans’ livelihoods.

(1/4) This morning, Trump decided to withhold funding for critical infrastructure improvements to the CTA, another step in his journey to take revenge on Democrats and blue cities.

They own this government shutdown, choosing to have hard-working Americans pay for tax breaks for billionaires and corporate special interests.

As Congressman, I'll always fight to protect essential services and put the needs of our communities first.

Government shutdowns help no one.

Democrats tried to work collaboratively to deliver a responsible budget that lowers costs for working families and reverses Trump's devastating cuts to Medicaid, but Republicans walked away from the table.

Every neighborhood deserves easy, reliable access to basic staples like high-quality grocers with fresh food. Forty Acres Fresh Market, a Black woman-owned business, breaking ground in Austin represents the power of our community coming together to lift up its leaders & care for its neighbors.

Undoing generations of disinvestment in communities like Austin isn't possible overnight, but moving towards equity in healthy food access is a critical step in bringing growth and investment to Illinois' 7th District.

In Congress, I will fight to right this public health and environmental justice crisis by ensuring universal access to government-funded water testing kits, lead pipe replacement, and water infrastructure repair.

Our children are our future, and it’s more important now than ever that we take care of them in every way we can. That begins with bringing clean water back to Chicago and Illinois’ 7th Congressional District.

Peacefully protesting, especially in support of our neighbors & communities, should not & cannot be met with violent force.

This extreme escalation flies in the face of our American values rooted in the First Amendment, values we have fought so hard for, & we cannot accept this as the new normal.

The 7th District deserves a health care system that serves every community equally.

✅ Ensuring widespread access to quality and affordable health care 
✅ Enhancing rapid response services
✅ Increasing healthy food access and investing in community greenspace
✅ Modernizing the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program
✅ Improving the city's Mental Health Equity Network

These historically disinvested communities experience more frequent chronic and infectious diseases, higher rates of infant and maternal mortality, and insufficient mental health care. 

As Congressman, I will fight to close this gap through commonsense actions, including:

Investing in our communities is literally a matter of life and death.

In the 7th District, there is a 23-year difference in average life expectancy between the Loop, a predominantly white neighborhood, and Englewood, a predominantly Black neighborhood.

That data is staggering.

We should all aspire to his legacy of leadership rooted in a steadfast desire to always do right by our communities.

My heartfelt condolences are with his wife and two children.

Former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar was a true public servant. He set the example of good governance in action - putting aside partisan differences and rejecting extremism in the best interest of Illinoisans.
