Plus, sharing ANY of those interests online immediately creates pressure to "niche down" so algorithms and potential followers/customers can tag and/or categorize you. The way many choose to put themselves into smaller and smaller boxes is astounding to me.

Have overheard parts of at least two conversations between normies about the new Superman’s themes while running errands today. Somewhere, presumably Scotland, Grant Morrison ought to be celebrating the recent success of a past magical operation re: All-Star Superman. Their idea seeds are sprouting.

Nobody is really taken aback by the wild shit happening around them whereas a Marvel character would have to make a snide comment about how silly this all is. That authenticity is why I always like DC more as a reader, but objectively acknowledge it comes down to taste. This is FOR me in every way.

While also differentiating from the MCU in ways that gel with the comic versions: Marvel is where crazy superhero stuff happens to the "real" world and DC is where the world itself is so crazy that it beggars belief and stories are happening literally everywhere.

Anyone that knows me could have predicted that I'd have Big Thoughts coming out of any Superman film, but I'm glad they're mostly positive in this case. Could go on, but I'll spare y'all...

That might sound like weak-sauce to some, but it's my hope that Superman is a catalyst for some young boys in the same way 2001's Josie and the Pussycats was for young women like my sister or my wife. They both had their brain chemistry altered by that movie which many would casually dismiss.

Which is all to say: Gunn clearly synthesized the Grant Morrison influence into his own aesthetic and used the outsized, myth-making funhouse mirror of a superhero world to reflect how bizarre our own world has become and how average white guys sucking less would really help things turn out better.

Also: comic story conventions like the hero & villain bantering had the vibe, for Lex especially, that he was posturing for the live social feeds of the professional henchman class that he's surrounded by and dependent on. You know those CHUDs are all wannabe villain streamers.

Appreciated the choice in Superman to keep the camera at arm’s length or at what that world’s version of commercial drones could see. Observing things from angles that would be all over the DCU’s social media feeds. A tangible way to put the viewer INTO the world as its population would view it.

Feels trite to be excited about Superman when *gestures at the state of things* but I'm really looking forward to spending some time in a Gunn-tinged version fo the DCU this evening.
