maybe that's the joke of airi being allergic to cats... it's so much like the clash of shizumafu's associations with rabbits
it's like picnic where she correctly identifies a tree and airi asks how she knew about it and she says she just happened to hear about it on some tv show but we know flowers are super important and meaningful to her and she knows a lot abt them but she always keeps people like airi at arm's length?
like she makes it come across like she's just accompanying airi bc airi is the one who loves cats whereas for her it's a matter of a cat theme park sounding cute, but then her second card story makes it obvious that she knows too much about cats
and trying to place themselves in a position of being needed/necessary out of fear for being driven out...
maybe this is reading too much into a silly mixed event but i find it fascinating in light of how much cats being important for mizuki is downplayed
not knowing and not learning is more dangerous than the risk of knowing too much but they also have to be careful about letting this show while having to have "acceptable interests" and trying to appeal to others' sensibilities by learning
being a girl and being seen as too smart can be dangerous, leading to bullying or cruelty from people who assume the worst ... no trans girl wants to come across as too precocious due to harassment and so many trans girls are forced into a position where

and then once again in one card story with toya where she's asking him about murder mysteries he reads bc he's really into the genre and she's been watching detective conan which pulls a lot from the classics and she wants to have a deeper understanding of the literary inspiration of the series
we know she reads novels and nonfiction books bc of that area convo with meiko where meiko shows interest in books that "express the subtle differences between people's minds" (mizuki is good at reading people bc she's forced to be hyperaware of how they perceive her in case things turn sour...)
like it's not really as highlighted as everything else. we know she's very genre savvy and we see her using her knowledge of tropes in practice to navigate social interactions but her reading habits don't come up that much?
we know mizuki is a reader, an editor, a fashion designer and so much of it is bc isolation was her closest friend and doing the things she loves was her only escape, but it's also very interesting to me that reading is one of mizuki's most understated hobbies?
even now that niigo knows about her being trans, she still holds most people at arms length, never really letting them truly know her. she's knowledgeable bc of her loneliness and how often she didn't have anyone to rely on growing up so she learned so much just by herself...

mafuyu's picture book was about a black bunny who ran away from home and met a white bunny... mizuki is a black cat in we escape to survive bc she's a runaway cat, but also a white cat bc she guides the lost kitten... young rabbits are also called kittens btw...
