Megan Miles presenting her project: Can saliva serve as a biological matrix for a point of care testing device to measure phenobarbital in canine epilepsy? Dr Calum Stewart presenting his project: Exploring the role of Mef2c for the regulation of seasonal physiology

We kicked off this year's Physiology, Ageing and Welfare theme seminars today with two brilliant presentations from @calumstewartphd.bsky.social and Megan Miles!

Hypothalamic deiodinase type-3 establishes the period of circannual interval timing in mammals

A labour of love. Congrats to Calum & colleagues for 6 years of research being recognized by their publication in eLife. The groups discovered that the gene DIO3 is essential for circannual timing in mammals. Work funded by @leverhulme.ac.uk

Prolactin Regulates Seasonal Changes in Renal Rheostasis in Djungarian Hamsters Abstract. Seasonal changes in photoperiod regulate multiple physiological systems in vertebrates, including metabolism, reproduction, and immune function.

Excited to share Sayantan's latest publication! The group found prolactin enhanced N-cadherin expression in the convoluted tubules and increased kidney volume. The findings show water stability is regulated by prolactin.

Great talk by Dr. Jyoti Tiwari on how photic cues drive migration, sleep, and immunity in redheaded buntings. Her findings reveal how ALAN and noise pollution disrupt these processes, underscoring the need to preserve natural light-dark cycles. #PAWSeminar

Check the lot number of successful and unsuccessful c-Fos antibodies. From previous experience, the lot number determine the success of the antibody. (or lot number of secondary antibody is using an another step).
