The Penguin Readers collection is printed for English language learners and has different levels depending on difficulty. Some of the illustrations are really nice too!

This story features Kintaro, a hermit boy living alone in the woods with his mother. He spends his days playing with his friends, a hare, a deer, a monkey and a bear.
Curiously, this illustration depicts two hares and no deer, despite only one hare appearing in the story.
