Above everything else, like Sharone and her mother, my hope is that a lasting peace can be built in the region, a peace that makes both Israelis and Palestinians safer.

Since then, many hostages, including British citizens, have remained trapped in Gaza to this day. Jewish communities in the UK have also been faced with rising antisemitism, including the horrific attack in Manchester last week.

While I hope that diplomatic pressure like this will bring us closer to a ceasefire and ultimately long-term peace, the immediate priority is that humanitarian aid reaches those in Gaza without delay. (2/2)

Although the horror in Gaza continues, we have reached a historic milestone by joining several of our allies in recognising a Palestinian state.

This move was promised in the Labour manifesto, and is part of our commitment to peace in the region and a two-state solution. (1/2)

It's appalling to see this happen again after Abtisam Mohamed and I also tried to visit humanitarian projects in the West Bank in April before being denied entry by the Israeli authorities.

This week I called for full investigations into the deaths of journalists and aid workers in Gaza at the hands of the Israeli military.

Journalists in Gaza have been targeted and over 1,500 humanitarian workers have been killed, with almost no accountability.
