Visitor card with a drawing of the Grant Museum’s gibbon skeleton and the caption ‘why the gibbon chill like that?’ held in front of the specimen.

Love reading the visitor comments @uclgrantmuseum.bsky.social ❤️

‘Why the gibbon chill like that’?

Why indeed but also, why not?

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Not quite. Image shows an elongate stuffed skin of a hyrax on perspex mount on table. The legs stretch out from the body in a pose reminiscent of Superman. Image of museum display case with various specimens including the newly mounted hyrax study skin. A hyrax skull is in the foreground and a wombat model and skeleton is in the background. It appears that the wombats are riding on top of the hyrax but we can assure you they are not.

We have lift off! The new mount for our hyrax study skin not only elevates it for pest prevention but gives it the super hero pose appropriate for this unintentionally aerodynamic specimen.

A 2 panel sketch disgram of a 1 meter tall pod. in the second panel, an oval section pops off and a demonic little face with short tentacles flies out, crudely drawn.

My favorite artifact in the "you don't need AI to do art" discourse is, of course, screenwriter Dan O'Bannon's sketch of the facehugger to explain it to Giger.

Colour photo. The preserved red slender loris at the Grant Museum, in a “damn you all to hell” pose

A visit to the Grant Museum of Zoology was very cathartic today - a lot of the creatures appeared to be venting their frustrations with current affairs..

There is, to my mind, no justification for the continued use by the UK Government of X as a platform for official comms. There hasn't been for some time, in fact, but if the latest developments around AI-generated image abuse and CSAM don't change the policy I really don't know what will.

We caught up with one of the kids who sang on 'A Charlie Brown Christmas.' He's 72 now Dave Willat was just 11 years old when he showed up for what he thought would be a routine church choir practice in 1965. He and his fellow singers ended up making history.
