Beware of politicians offering to defend your history from ‘dishonour’ Anyone who claims their heritage makes them superior is merely a fool disparaging their own family.

Ancestry is a key part of identity. But any attempt to use it to claim superiority or to demean the identities of others is almost certainly based on fiction. Don’t be sucked in by anyone who claims the contrary.

It’s Dr. Teresa Borrenpohl. They keep leaving off the “Dr.”

Pay attention to how Idaho & the msm media infantilize her, calling her a “little girl” and ignoring her academic achievements. None of that is on accident.

Dormant seeds from Watton Ice Age pond project germinate - BBC News The seeds found between sediment layers have now germinated to bring back ancient aquatic plants.

Few things contain so much hope as a seed.

"dormant seeds preserved in sediment... had germinated, bringing back a variety of aquatic plants, including rare fen pondweed."

"More than 90 wetland plant species have emerged from the preserved dormant seeds"

if you're reading this 50 years from now I need you to know that this series of world events isn't as dumb as it probably seems, it's actually much, much dumber than you can possibly imagine

Kevin O'Leary to @ianhanomansing.bsky.social on Cross Country Checkup, rough quote: "The Canadian dollar has dropped 40% against the US dollar under Trudeau."

Fact check: the CAD has dropped 34% from the 2011 peak, but just 4% of that drop happened under Trudeau. The big drop happened under Harper.

an archival black and white photograph of the KKK marching in Washington DC with the capitol behind them

In light of everything happening, I wrote about how the KKK in the 1920s felt unstoppable, about the people that fought against them anyway, and about how fascism always fails. dansinker.com/posts/202…

Modern-Day Oracles or Bullshit Machines?

This photo shows a person holding a large pizza with a variety of toppings, including what appears to be ham and pineapple, suggesting it might be a Hawaiian pizza. The individual is smiling broadly, indicating enjoyment or pride in presenting the pizza. The setting appears to be indoors, possibly in a restaurant or a dining area, as there are chairs and a table visible in the background. The pizza is held on a white plate, and the person is wearing a light-colored shirt.

It is National Pizza Day, so this is your periodic reminder that Hawaiian Pizza was invented by a Greek-Canadian named Sam Panopoulos at his Satellite Restaurant in Chatham, Ontario in 1962.

Map of Most Common Means of Transportation to Work by County, with all but a handful of counties not being "drove alone"

The 80-year project to make this country completely car-dependent is complete, and now that you're trapped, you need to spend an average of $737 a month for your own economic and social mobility.

I don't align myself with any party, and the idea of being "a Liberal" or an "NDPer" or whatever, mystifies me. I think we should be freer than that to be involved with representational democracy and decision making and not be always trying to score touchdowns for our team.

Opinion | As a Climate Scientist, I Knew It Was Time to Leave Los Angeles After the Bobcat fire, the area no longer felt safe.

It is entirely logical to be furious at the fossil fuel industry, whose decades-long campaign of corrupting politicians, crafting fake science, sowing false doubt, and lying at an industrial scale has brought us to this moment. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/10/o...
