My email is an endless stream of “upgrade to get access to—“

I don’t want it. I want to downgrade. I want to get less access. I want the opposite of what you’re selling.

The most helpful any everyday technology has ever been is GMail's "You wrote 'Attached is' but no files are attached." reminder and I don't need any tech to be more intelligent than that.

R&S! Presents: Agent Q&A with Jennifer Laughran Join Jennifer Laughran, Senior Agent at the Andrea Brown Literary Agency, for this lively discussion about publishing.

I'm doing an Ask the Agent (Live!) event on 3/25/26. It's a Q&A format, aka, "Everything you've always wanted to know about publishing but were afraid to ask." It does cost $20, but all proceeds are going toward a residency scholarship.

Am taking a performance art workshop. In French. The direction was to move for seven minutes holding space for the word lieux. Which means place. I heard the teacher say vieux. Which means old. Let’s just say I was moving in the room with a totally different vibe.

This demonstrates the importance for time travellers of having a change purse with clearly marked compartments for different currencies. (Pick one up any year after 1893)

Basically, take the amount of money you think your favorite author gets, halve it, and then halve it again, and you have a number that's probably a lot closer to their actual earnings from writing.

"But I don't think they make that much!"

Halve that. Halve it again.

Generally speaking all pre-orders are equal. Publishers note where the preorders are coming from, but mostly for their own information. That said, remember you can also pre-order books at your local bookstores! It's not just an online thing. Pre-ordering locally helps the bookstore and the author!

An anatomical drawing of a cross-section of a man's head. The eyeball has been replaced by an RSS logo. To the left of the face is a "code waterfall" effect as seen in the credit sequences of the Wachowskis' 'Matrix' movie. To the right are clouds of grey roiling clouds, infiltrating the brain as well.

Never let them tell you that enshittification was a mystery. Enshittification isn't downstream of the "iron laws of economics" or an unrealistic demand by "consumers" to get stuff for free.

Quebec cheese curds could soon be 'protected' to promote authentic poutine around the world The Quebec dairy industry wants the province's cheese curds to be officially protected to promote authentic poutine around the world.

The Quebec dairy industry wants a reserved designation for poutine cheese — similar to the controlled appellation used for products like Champagne or Bordeaux.
