All my siblings and I were underweight babies at birth.

Oh heck yes. Not that I'm a doctor or anyone who should know anything. But I can't imagine purposely using a cancer-causing thing (smoking) just to keep off a few pounds. Feed your body good nutrition, is my thought. Love yourself.

As retired LE, I know that LE must have the cooperation of the public in order to solve major crimes.

The current policitization of ICE, the FBI, DOJ and other government agencies has lead to the public not trusting or wanting to ally with LE.

This makes us all less safe.

To convict someone of a crime, the gov't must prove:
A crime was committed.
Which crime it was.
By a specific person.

The FBI uses 'suspect' because that generally means they don't have all those answers yet.

It's standard FBI terminology that isn't typically known outside the FBI.

The term 'subject' is more accurate, as it means simply that someone is the subject of an investigation. The term 'suspect' carries more accusatory weight, which isn't appropriate until sufficient facts have been found to support it.

Each state gets to decide if they recognize federal agents as state peace officers. Texas has decided they don't. So, as an FBI agent, I was not authorized to enforce state or local laws.
The FBI deputizes state/local LEO at times, but in Texas, it is not reciprocated. TX does not deputize feds.
