At least once a week now we're being served another example of how Ford, GM and Chrysler won't be globally relevant beyond this decade.

More people should watch the WNBA. These games are really entertaining.

Indeed. Keep talking about this. US automakers don’t have any globally significant EV models and China is helping Africa rapidly shift to renewables and opening a whole new market for their world beating EVs. American Exceptionalism is a cancer.

Remember When EVs Were the Future? Americans Don’t Really Want Them Anymore Automakers are shifting their focus to their plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles for the foreseeable future.

This is a bullshit headline. Americans want EVs, we just don't have anyone producing reasonable cars.

In fact it's the very first thing mentioned:
"A recent AAA survey revealed that the top motivators against buying EVs included high purchase prices"

Most of them don't even know there's an issue with Tesla. They truly are that insulated.

Same thing was happening to me, but a quick visit to the f150 lightning reddit cured me of that one. I know every car forum focuses on their problems, but they really do have some spectacular failures.

The uninterested 50% of the American public who can't be bothered to think about anything outside of themselves. There are still TONS of self proclaimed"moderates" that "just don't believe in all that political stuff" and want to buy an EV. And due to tariffs Tesla is still one of the cheapest.

Here in the Midwest I've done multiple 500+ mile trips with my car that has an effective range of 180mi in the winter. It's not a hardship.

22.07.2025 22:42 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

or simply point out that a smaller battery would save $100 a month on your car payment, and you can just rent a car for that road trip saving you a ton of cash.

22.07.2025 21:25 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

The point is that it's NOT perfectly reasonable. Almost no one actually needs that capability on a regular basis, and building massive batteries into cars that are rarely used for more than 80 miles at any given time is insanely wasteful.

5/ The bill cuts the help middle income Americans get to buy health care on the Affordable Care Act exchange.

A 60 year old couple making $85,000 (not a king's ransom) would see a $26,000 increase in health care premiums. Yes, that's right - $26,000.

4/ A new tax break for coal companies! So the tax incentives for wind and solar are GONE, and the coal industry is getting NEW tax incentives.

It's official policy now to to not just deny global warming exists - but to actively make it WORSE.

2/ It was bad enough they cut all the tax incentives for wind and solar energy - they added a NEW TAX on these projects to make sure America never builds any new renewables.

Remember, Trump promised the oil industry provisions like this in exchange for a $1B campaign donation.

The Big abomination of a bill passed and is going to be law. Tens of millions of people will lose healthcare. Millions more will go hungry. Every poll shows the American public hates the bill.

I never EVER again want to hear Dems say they can't make legislation happen.

Not that anyone cares, but now that JD Vance has cast the tiebreaking vote for $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts, I'm reupping these Vance quotes from 2017, in which he flatly declared that Medicaid cuts like these betray Trumpism's promises to the working class:

So I'm starting to look at vehicles to replace my Volvo C40 when the lease is up next year. Right now my short list is:
Genesis gv60 performance
Hyundai ioniq 5 ltd
Volvo EX30

Also under consideration
Cadillac lyriq
Acura RSX or ZDX
Polestar 2 (used) or 3 (lease)

What am I missing?
