This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the Hyde Amendment, still very much on the books today and one of the first things that paved the way for overturning Roe.

NEW: An Atlanta-area crisis pregnancy center has raked in more than $1 million from an unusual source: the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The CPC is opening a maternity home, worrying advocates that residents may be coerced into relinquishing children for adoption.

Anyway, in conclusion, at this very moment, someone in red America is taking abortion medications out of a bulk supply in their closet and putting it in a nondescript envelope to mail.

This will continue to happen regardless of what the Senate does or doesn't do next.

Another aspect of this hearing I found striking: How routinely anti-trans rhetoric now bleeds into anti-abortion arguments.

Senator Hawley spent most of his time trying to get Dr. Verma to answer "yes" or "no" whether men can get pregnant.

Saying "yes" lets them claim Left is anti-science.

Hassan: "the murder rate, the assault rate on pregnant women by their partners to end a pregnancy has been a long-standing part of human history, so the blame it on mifepristone misses the point to say that women shouldn't be able to get this medication through the mail."

Sen. Maggie Hassan just disclosed her own experience with miscarriage, too.

She calls the hearing "gaslighting at the highest level," pointing out the long history of men hurting women to end their pregnancies, which can't be blamed on mifepristone.

ICE, said Ellison, is all but telling people, “‘You want to defend your neighbors, you’re going to do it at the risk of your own life.’ I think that’s the unmistakable message. Just looking at the tape, they could have said, ‘You get out of here,’ right? And then she gets out of there. They didn’t want her to get out of there. They wanted to either drag her out of that car or do what they did. And it was all about teaching lessons.”

Keith Ellison in @michellegoldberg.bsky.social’s piece really nailed it, didn’t he?
