Last week, most EU member states agreed to reassess the EU-Israel Association Agreement over #Gaza. Plan International welcomes this but it’s not enough.

The EU must:
- Suspend the Agreement
- Demand urgent aid access to Gaza
- Halt arms sales amid #IHL violations

Every five minutes, a child dies from violence. But grave violations against children are not inevitable. They are a result of choices.

4️⃣ Help convene a global dialogue with partners to strengthen a principled humanitarian system.

Today’s #MFF discussions are key in these efforts. The European Council must:

1️⃣ Leverage the MFF as an opportunity to reaffirm the EU’s role as a global leader in humanitarian action

2️⃣ Commit to significantly increasing humanitarian funding to meet the scale of the needs.

Dramatic cuts mixed with a vocal anti-rights movement threaten hard-won gains, including in gender equality.

@planglobal.bsky.social research shows that crises, whether conflicts, climate disasters, or economic downturns, consistently and disproportionately impact women and girls.

The recent U.S. decision to freeze its foreign aid and dismantle USAID, coupled with significant cuts by some European states, have further compounded the already alarming funding gap.

In 2024, only 45% of the UN’s global humanitarian appeal was funded. While a global humanitarian leader, the EU’s existing MFF budget allocated only 1% towards humanitarian aid.

This simply does not match the scale of the needs.

Without a doubt, humanitarian action saves countless lives and alleviates suffering across the world, from Ukraine to Sudan, Gaza to Haiti.

It also supports long-term peace, security and global cooperation – all critical for the EU and its citizens.
