Interesting, do you need to do this with a render controller for some reason?

If the functionality you need async for doesn't affect the whole page you'll be better off just using a ViewComponent instead.

Genuinely tempting in scenarios like this. Then I remember that I'd need to stop using Visual Studio, and would still need a windows PC for gaming and it doesn't seem like such a great idea.

After enabling S3 sleep via the registry the behaviour is almost exactly what I'd expect.

Will still give hibernate a try, to test speed if nothing else.

Although I did just make the necessary registry edit to disable S0/enabled S3 sleep (which is still supported by my Asus's BIOS πŸ™Œ) so will see if that solves the problem first.

Will give it a try, never actually used hibernate in the era of fast NVME SSDs so maybe it's good enough now.

The corollary of not being able to trust the sleep button is I now shutdown every time.

So right now, when I need to quickly hop on and edit a PowerPoint I first have to contend with half-a-dozen electron apps checking for updates, on battery power.

The most frustrating of all is when my laptop has gone to sleep on it's own and then I close the lid...

I just want my laptop to sleep, and stay asleep until I wake it up - push the power button, or open the lid.

Not randomly wake up and cook itself in my bag.
Not wake up when I plug it in, or unplug it.
Not to say it's going to sleep, turn off the screen, then stay awake.

Which is super weird. Imagine building a car and prioritising which parts you make first based on the scarcity of steel.

A UDS - Ugly Drum Smoker, composed of an upright black-painted 40 gallon steel drum with two copper pipes, about half the length of the drum, attached vertically to its side and entering the drum at the bottom. The pipes are terminated with ball valves with bright red handles. From the back of the drum protrudes a tall chimney, about half the height again of the drum. A small amount of thin white smoke is exiting the chimney. The drum has a plain steel lid with two handles. Attached to the handle of one ball valve is a bright orange thermometer transmitter with two wires entering the drum under the lid.

In the background a 6' dark wooden fence runs from the left of the shot and meets a dark wooden shed to the right. The drum sits on a wooden plinth, itself straddling a boundary between a dead lawn and block paving. Behind this a border with bark chippings and two small shrubs.

Tomorrow's dinner is on. New chimney/smokestack and upgraded fire-basket are doing a great job - even if it did mean grinding metal outside on the hottest day of the year.

Oh, I wouldn't have guessed that. Is it worth a rewatch in 2025?

Incidentally, in the UK these have different ratings - Reservoir Dogs is 18 vs 15 for Under Siege.

To my mind, Original Sin (not a doctrine held by all Christians, and IME rarely important to those that do), is really just religious-speak for the fact that we humans seem biologically pre-disposed to make choices that harm others and/or ourselves.

Semi-serious point, as I'm currently trying to teach my 2yo not to hit his brother.

I need to give him instruction/tooling to overcome his lizard-brain else he's gonna keep braining people.

Unpopular #umbraco opinion.

Multi-site Umbraco instances are an anti-pattern.

Any benefit is almost always due to inefficiencies elsewhere in the dev/test/content-editing pipelines. You ultimately pay with reduced performance and agility that's hard/expensive to claw back.

Ironing really doesn't need to be a thing.

We could all just agree that creased clothes don't matter and do away with ironing.

The API endpoint can then be part of the same app/repo - far simpler for development and testing than having some separate project and infra just to host a very simple API. Plus there's perf benefits from using the same edge server.

Even for a non-static site, for a form that's anything other than UI for the website/app itself, a dedicated 3rd party service will likely deliver heaps more value.

If seamless UX/integration with the website itself is necessary then, IME, it's time to switch up from static to hybrid.

06.06.2025 22:59 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

For a truly static site? Use a hosted solution - Google, Microsoft, Typeform, Jotform etc. and link/embed. Easy to implement and, crucially, easy to make more useful with targeted questions to funnel users. + security built in, integrations, flexibility etc.
