I think a modified screenplay style works great!
My other half @makestuffjohn.bsky.social actually created a pretty comprehensive template that we've used for a few projects so far:

It's wild that we still don't have a commonly accepted comic script format. Basically every script I get is different from the next, with varying levels of technical or layout issues. (But hey, we're all out here doing our best.)
Keep your letterer happy with these tips from @blambot.bsky.social ๐ฅฐ
Loved experimenting with manga-style lettering! Special thanks to @sara.pizza's amazing resources (particularly on text placement & balloon styles)

Hi! I'd love an invite!

08.09.2025 15:38 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I'd LOVE to see some more examples of cool lettering, so pls feel free to add any here!!
01.09.2025 21:03 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A comic panel from GALAXY: THE PRETTIEST STAR (2022). An edgy teenager drinks from a large carton of juice.
A comic panel from GALAXY: THE PRETTIEST STAR (2022). A teenaged boy is being laughed at by classmates, who are yelling "BOK-BOK-BOK!" at him.
Last but certainly not least: @airy.bsky.social on GALAXY: THE PRETTIEST STAR (2022)
Highlighting her sfx work here because she's the GOAT at seamlessly integrating her sfx into any art style ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ
A comic panel from BATMAN: YEAR ONE (1987). A bloody arm and hand are shown lying on the ground next to a small dinner bell.
Three comic panels from LUMBERJANES VOL. 1 (2015). A group of girl scouts are facing off against a trio of Greek-style stone statues come to life.
Some fabulous examples of both traditional and modern hand lettering: Todd Klein on BATMAN: YEAR ONE (1987) and Aubrey Aiese on LUMBERJANES Vol. 1 (2015)
I always find something viscerally satisfying about the imperfections of hand lettering โจ
A comic panel from THE VISION (2016). The Vision family sits at the dinner table while a loud "ZZZAAAAZZZ" sound effect is coming from the backyard, seen from the window.
And here we have @claytoncowles.bsky.social on THE VISION (2016)
Iconic yellow balloons aside, I love the sfx hidden behind the window frame/blinds -- so dynamic ๐๐ผ
A comic panel from EX MACHINA Vol. 1 (2005). A man says drunkenly, "Hnk... fuck you want now, kid...?"
First up, Jared K. Fletcher's work on EX MACHINA (2004)
These drunken balloons are so effective with the squiggle tail and surrounding lil bubbles.
And now I'm wondering who started the trend of small clustered bubbles denoting drunkenness (maybe they're supposed to represent burps?) ๐ค
This #LettererAppreciationDay, I'm gonna grab some books off my shelf and shout out some rad-ass lettering! (thread ๐งต)

21.08.2025 16:43 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0They shrunk in the early '70s (potentially due to a nationwide paper shortage) and again around 1990 with the switch to digital. Though I did see some folks claim there was another shift around 2002, so that could be why there's still such confusion around it!
21.08.2025 16:39 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Having now gone down the rabbit hole: The "standard" comic size has changed many times since the golden age, though comics in general haven't been 7x10.5 since the silver age ('50s-'70s).
