I am deeply concerned and saddened to hear of the killing of Anas Al-Sharif by the IDF. Israel need to produce evidence fast that he was a member of Hamas because journalists are not legitimate targets. Neither are the civilians, especially the children being starved and killed.

It was amazing to see Chris Truett arrive home in Southport today, ending his final leg of Cycling the World to raise money for men’s prostate cancer.
You can follow his incredible journey on Facebook or Instagram and donate to his cause via this link. πŸ‘

A very good article on cycle lanes.
I’ve been raising the issue of cycle lane overgrowth and sand build up within the Council.
It is especially worth reading Harry Kessler’s words who is a hugely inspirational person and has been a pleasure to meet and work with on this issue.

I know. I meant illegal immigrants, I didn’t say illegal asylum seekers. I have campaigned for asylum seekers and refugees rights including ending indefinite detention for years. Sorry if it wasn’t clear enough!

Councillors can make a difference!
I’m very pleased to see Preston Rd finally resurfaced after I raised it last year and was told that it was not on the list to be done, but it would be re-assessed.
I’ve today spoken with residents on the road and they’re happy, so I’m happy. 😁

The Government’s rhetoric on sending people back who arrive in small boats is ignoring the fact there are no safe legal routes to claim asylum.
Sending illegals back is only half the job. We need humanitarian visas so genuine asylum seekers don’t need to make dangerous journey’s.

There’s footage showing Russians erasing the right bank of the Kherson region from temporarily occupied Nova Kakhovka.

There are no military targets. Russians are shelling people’s homes for the sake of destruction and death. It’s genocide!

So the Government’s answer to solving the small boats crisis, a problem made far more difficult to deal with since Brexit, is to strike a deal with France that looks just like what we did when in the EU?
How many more times is this going to happen?

Today was judging day for Britain In Bloom and Southport has entered in for the best coastal town.
Differences happening like this all over Southport and it’s all down to our amazing volunteer groups. I think they deserve it.

The way I see it to solve the UK’s small boats crisis is we need:
1. Safe and legal routes with asylum visas.
2. A deterrent for illegals, which we had in the EU.
Hopefully the new deal with France will help but it is clear why this has got more difficult to manage post Brexit.

Pleased to see several Sefton Council vehicles and workers today doing a great job on Fleetwood Rd.
Weeds in the gutters were sprayed a couple of weeks ago, today they were removed and the road swept. I had been chasing it up for residents here but all roads are done on a rota.

There was no justification for last years riots. The attack on the Mosque was an attack on our community. My 8 year old son was crying, asking if it was a war. Police officers suffered life changing injuries.
Thank you to everyone who helped clean up and show what an amazing community Southport is.

Fleetwood Road issues sorted

Residents reported to Cllr Leo Evans and I the overgrown vegetation causing people to step into the road and also the missing teddy bear swing in the park.
Thanks to @greensefton.bsky.social
for their hard work as always and to residents for raising the issues with us.

Sefton Council are currently consulting on new cycle lanes. Here’s a great example from Lithuania with cycle lanes on wide pavements. Do fill in the consultation if you’re a Sefton resident and if you live in Cambridge Ward, let me know what you think.

In KlaipΔ—da, Lithuania. This is the communal area. Skatepark, basketball courts, football pitches, lots of space for walking dogs and running.
Been coming here for 15 years and the sense of community still impresses me. Looks like they’ve got a good Council maintaining all this!

Votes at 16 and 17.
I think the best argument for it is, it will make young people a greater focus in our politics. This will benefit all of us.
It will make young people more engaged with politics and encourage younger people to get involved. So many wins.
It’s a yes from me.

We are installing this Grant 15.5kW heat pump in a Victorian property with uninsulated solid walls. We have decarbonised quite a few older/less well insulated properties and they’re warm.
It will be on @openenergymon.bsky.social so you can see it live and prove again that heat pumps heat any home.
