Like I'm deeply anti-AI and would describe myself as such but like, I clearly don't mean the thing in your phone that decides what camera settings to use or whatever. :P

I hate the term "AI" tbh, because it covers a whole swath of technologies, some of which are useful and have been for a long time (Classifier models IDing object for example), but they all end up painted with the same "AI" brush as the more useless, harmful stuff.

1 base stations can work for tracking but 2 is ideal.

Quest headsets use a different tracking system and don't require base stations but aren't compatible with Index controllers, for example.

or you can get the bigscreen beyond 2 if you want the best quality headset and have a lot of money to burn.

Regardless of the headset, Valve index controllers are the best for games like VRC but you can't use them with Quest headsets without a lot of effort.

ideally you'd wait for Valve's next headset, which is should release Soon™
If you want something now:

Valve index for good quality and the ability to expand your setup down the line

Meta Quest if you want a cheap headset and don't mind being locked into an ecosystem

HTC Vive if you hate yourself
