If it was hit by Israel, I'd believe it was being done deliberately. Just saw a video where they shot a 14 year old kid and watched him bleed out for 45 minutes, and they're deliberately obliterating Lebanon like they did Gaza. 😣

I could accept the US doing it, but I don't see how they benefit.

I wish this were harder to believe.

I still think it’s about neck and neck, Hegseth’s utter incompetence versus his utter lack of humanity or professionalism, but neither would surprise me at this point.

I can believe this. Because I do think they have a callous disregard for all lives (except maybe American) and because they would not foresee any consequences that they could not lie their way out of.
I'm so sorry.

Hard to say which is worse: that it was done on purpose, or that they simply didn't give a shit one way or the other.

Nah. It's super counterproductive. Way fewer pros than cons. The outrage about this is universal (supposedly even in MAGA circles) and in Iran fury must be way stronger than intimidation.
Unless... they want to provoke a terrorist attack in response. But those are 2 layers of conspiracy already.

I want to think it’s impossible. The fact that I don’t think it’s impossible though is damage enough

Re: a bbc story on the U.S. bombing that killed 160 school girls

There's growing speculation the murder of 165 school children wasn't hit by accident. Many of the children were reportedly from military families. And the message being conveyed, no doubt, is even your children are fair game. A warning to every soldier.

I’m so sorry but I just read this post on the other site and the revelatory truth of it hit me like a ton of bricks. The US government has proven it would violate every ethical and legal norm & constraint to achieve political goals. Why not this.

Just occurred to me that the Islamic Republic in Iran fired thousands of missiles and drones at Muslim Gulf countries during Ramadan.

Same goes for these baseless anti sharia law policies, BDS bans, and Israel loyalty pledges. It’s all undermining the very foundations of your constitutionally protected human rights. The future is bleak.

Trauma in Israel
"For a 19-year-old, killing 20 people a day is not normal."
Children no longer want to live, soldiers are tormented by their experiences: Three wars within three years are plunging Israeli society into a state of psychological emergency.

Six years ago today, 26-year-old Breonna Taylor was shot six times and killed by police officers who forced entry into her Louisville, KY apartment. Her death sparked nationwide outrage and calls for an end to police brutality and gun violence against Black people. #SayHerName #BlackLivesMatter

Landed in Tel Aviv tonight, to find myself surrounded - as is publicly visible - by US war planes.
Under the law of armed conflict, civilian airports are, by their nature, civilian objects. The starting point is the general rule of distinction reflected in Article 52(1) of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions, which provides that civilian objects shall not be the object of attack or reprisals.
Indeed, the mere fact that the object belongs to a State that is party to an armed conflict does not alter its civilian character. As with all objects in armed conflict, however, the legal characterization depends not solely on the object's nature but also on its use in the circumstances prevailing at the time. Civilian objects become military objectives when, by their nature, location, purpose, or use, they make an effective contribution to military action and when their destruction, capture, or neutralization offers a definite military advantage. A civilian airport that is used to host, service, refuel, arm, or dispatch military aircraft may therefore lose its civilian protection, at least in respect of the parts of the installation that are being used for military purposes.
In such circumstances the object may qualify as a military objective by use.
The transformation is functional rather than formal: it does not require the airport to be formally designated a military airbase. What matters is whether the facilities contribute effectively to military operations, for example by enabling combat aircraft to launch sorties or sustain military deployments in an international armed conflict.

We should be completely clear that the consensus of the Western ruling class is that expressing "from the river to sea" is orders of magnitude worse than presiding over a genocide.

This woman was arrested, while the Israeli president recently visited Australia and met the PM without any consequence

The abuse inflicted on Palestinian detainees at Sde Teiman prison — including the murder of a Palestinian doctor — was inhumane. This one case, brought because the abuse was *caught on camera*, was a small sign that rule of law in Israel still worked.

The Israeli government has dropped the case.
