As things stand, Ukraine and Europe are on the verge of being confronted with exactly the kind of Faustian deal they feared would emerge back in February. The fact that Europe hasnβt moved to block such a deal in the past six months is a failure of leadership and diplomacy.

I realize broad science-literacy problems cannot generally be solved just by shoving more facts at people but I really wish more people understood that the entire purpose and mechanism of a vaccine is to educate your OWN immune system, making it about the most "natural" medical intervention possible

Review: "Let me tell you I was bitterly disappointed to learn that this book is, in fact, an instructional guide to the profitable husbandry of ducks as a craft. There is not one sliver of insight about holding ducks accountable for their crimes against humanity, Earth, or God."

Under English law is it legal to kill project managers who slide a 4pm friday meeting into your calendar on a sunny summer day?
I vaguely remember something about it being okay as long as i use a longbow.

One of the most stupid Labour policies so far. Motivated by Labour thinking that socially conservative people hate all foreigners coming here, so perhaps if they can advertise this policy something will register re Labour's attitude to illegal immigration.

I want to do a 𧡠about the Sidney Sweeney thing, because it's *extremely* revealing & educational.
First, to be clear: I could not give less of a shit about the details -- the ad, the rhetoric, the jeans, her boobs, whatever. Good lord, who cares.
Let's look at the *structure* of the episode.

The British Academy, the national body for humanities and social sciences, last month warned that the levy would put pressure on universities' finances and add to the impression that Britain was "not welcoming to international students", hampering the government's drive to boost the economy and the country's soft power.
English universities face a Β£621mn-a-year hit from a proposed levy on fee income from overseas students - more coverage of this issue today

We strongly oppose the introduction of the international student levy. It suggests a lack of understanding of the financial pressure on higher education. It is estimated that a
single cohort of international students provides up to Β£37 billion net contribution to the UK already

β’ Discontinue the idea of introducing a levy on higher education provider income from international students.
β’ Reduce visa costs to ensure they are at least as competitive in cost as other leading science nations, and preferably have a target to become the mos competitive in the G7.
β’ Provide immediate clarity that the current time length for Indefinite Leave to Remain is kept in place for current and future Global Talent visa holders and their dependents.
We are calling on the UK Government to not introduce a levy on higher education provider income from international students, reduce visa costs to attract global talent, and to review higher education funding to create a sustainable model

I'm sad to say that since leaving Twitter/X my sales for live shows have dropped quite a lot - it turns out that even though it's a dreadful place it was still useful for getting the word out about events. So any shares / RTs of my posts about live shows are hugely appreciated!

An illustration of Thranduil from The One Ring First Edition.
This illustration didnβt make the corebook. It replaced a rejected piece of art by another artist, and was used in βWords of the Wiseβ, a free scenario by Dominic McDowall for the game. After that had to go away for contractual reasons, the art reappeared inβ¦ Heart of the Wild? Darkening of Mirkwood? Those two titles began as one book, so I donβt always know the split.
Iβm late for the anniversary of its release at GenCon 2011, but to celebrate that ancient release of The One Ring First Edition: one like = one illustration from TOR 1st ed, which I helped illustrate, art direct, write and creatively direct. Good times. Hereβs Thranduil with whom I was happy.
