The board chair (Houskamp) was overheard promising to spike this vote if there aren't substantial changes and told Wszolek to keep working on his hail Mary plan.

A tweet by Max Burns (@themaxburns
) reads: "From the U.S. Holocaust Museum: 'What distinguishes a concentration camp from a prison (in the modern sense) is that it functions outside of a judicial system. The prisoners are not indicted or convicted of any crime by judicial process.' Welp."
Never forget.

Bone chilling.
A court ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia to stay in the United States.
The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that he was illegally removed. Trump is pretending he won the ruling 9-0.
1/ You may not think this case means anything to you. But let me tell you why it does.

The U.S. Department of Education has just launched enddei.ed.gov, a public portal for parents, students, and teachers to report instances of so-called βdiscriminationβ related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in schools.
It would be a shame if false reports were made. An absolute shame.

He looked surprised when I said that so after the meeting I took the opportunity to say "I noticed your reaction, can we meet so I can tell you all about the amazing things the art department does?" And that's how I got a 1 on 1 meeting with my superintendent for March. Art advocacy is rad. 2/2

My amazing principal is retiring at the end of this year. At the staff meeting w/the superintendent to talk about what we're looking for in a candidate I bring up valuing specials (art, etc.) and an art therapy program I implemented w/extra time in collaboration with our school social worker. 1/2

TIL: there are songs by Chumbawumba that aren't tubthumping & are about homophobia & fascism. Apparently they spent 15 years as an anarchist punk collective & intentionally sold out to raise money for important causes.
Welp, time to listen to "On the day the Nazi died" again.

Over a decade after first learning this bit of my friends family history, it's still incredibly relevant and the most delightful story. (Her other friend turned it into this meme.)

Updating that now there's COVID, Influenza A and Influenza B.
"Miss L, why are you wearing a mask?"
"So...I love you... but you're gross."
This conversation has been on repeat. They laugh, but I think I'm slowly convincing some kids to start masking at school again as we talk more.

Oh hey, it's your girl who works in public ed. RSV is in both of my schools, I had between 3-6 kids out sick of every single class today and I anticipate that ramping up next week. It would be a good time to review proper hand washing with your littles if you have them and masking when going out.

A terracotta planter on a table. The planter contains a sculpture of wire fronds with crystals sitting in preserved reindeer moss.
Behold my first wire sculpture! I've made wire jewelry in the past, but I saw an artist online who made a tutorial (TheBohoBeachBum) and I was obsessed. I'll be starting another one today and have ideas for a bunch of them with crystal leaves. I'm calling this series "Risky Bismuth."

Trump will overplay his hand. Be ready for when he does.
Friends,
I've been spending a lot of time on Substack this week. This essay was originally in Politico magazine but I found it on the substack of Robert Reich, former secretary of labor for Clinton. It's worth a read.

Post from Latino pollster Mike Madrid:
βDoing some research for an upcoming article on the last βmass deportationβ of Mexicans during the 1930βs.
Over half of those deported were US citizens.β
Indeed. When they rounded up the Japanese Americans, myself and my family included, for internment during WWII out of fear over Japanese spies and saboteurs, two thirds of us were U.S. citizens.
Donβt think it wonβt happen again when they come for the βundocumented.β

After submitting my app to volunteer with the ACLU, I got my "I voted" sticker tattooed on me to remind myself to fight for the future we and our children deserve.
Hopefully this platform will help me find like-minded people that I can do the work with. Located outside of Detroit.
