I used give Pip a lift to the 44 Sqn reunions as she lived nearby. Remember Waddo control tower gave her a tour whilst the BBMF flew past (under the height of said Tower!) The station c/o said he must have sneezed and missed the flyby unfortunately. Nice one Groupie. 😆
Over 1,000 items in the @ibccdigitalarchive.bsky.social are tagged Women's Auxiliary Air Force. One of our volunteers is currently working on Pip Beck's 3 photo albums. She served as a wireless operator in the watch office at RAF Waddington. #InternationalWomensDay #History
Jonathan Ruffle recorded the interviews used in Bomber, most of them are on his website.
We discussed them at length during our reunion episode.

Good question, I can't remember. I'll ask Ade Bean, the director. I know the actors were all speaking in to coffee cups to get the sound right.
A packed house at the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln last night for my talk on Bomber Command’s gardening operations during the Second World War. It was fantastic to meet so many readers and podcast listeners in person—thank you to everyone who came along!
Absolutely wizard talk and great company. Buy Janes' book if you missed this, it's all in there.

David McCormack's book 'The Great Escapism' contains the stories of POWs including Alfie Fripp, Peter Butterworth, and Cy Grant - as well as a fair bit of cross dressing. #History #WW2 #HistBookChat @barnthorn.bsky.social
Drawing by William Akrill (1922 - 1943) of folks discussing an air raid #OTD 4 March 1941. Seems like there's far too many people all over the world doing exactly the same thing this morning. #WW2 #History #bombing #war #WorldNews
Scampton first opened in 1916 and re-opened in 1936. It wasn't only home to 617 Squadron during the Second World War; 49, 83, 57, 83, 153, and 625 Squadrons flew from there, and it was part of both 5 Group and 1 Group. Concrete runways were laid in late 1943, and it finally closed in 2022.
Don't point firearms at people folks.
I'm on a loop of Detectorists, Ghosts, and Small Prophets.
If you can get to the IBCC in Lincoln on Thursday folks get a ticket for this!
