HMS Royal Sovereign was a British pre-dreadnought battleship of the Royal Sovereign class, built for the Royal Navy under the Naval Defence Act 1889. Thew other seven member of the class were: HMS Empress of India (1891), HMS Repulse (1892), HMS Hood (1891), HMS Ramillies (1892), HMS Resolution (1892), HMS Revenge (1892) and HMS Royal Oak (1892)She was laid down at Portsmouth Dockyard on 30 September 1889, launched on 26 February 1891, and commissioned into service on 31 May 1892. The ship was decommissioned on 9 September 1909 and sold for scrap on 7 October 1913.
The Royal Sovereign class represented the Royal Navyβs first standardized pre-dreadnought design under the expansive naval construction programme authorised by the Naval Defence Act 1889. The Act aimed to maintain British maritime supremacy through a βtwo-power standardβ; a fleet equal to or greater than the combined strength of the next two largest navies.
Operational History
Upon commissioning in 1892, Royal Sovereign served as flagship of the Channel Fleet. She fulfilled routine fleet duties, including training exercises, diplomatic port visits, and ceremonial functions.
In 1897 she was transferred to the Mediterranean Fleet. She returned to British waters in 1902 and was briefly assigned as a guard ship before undergoing a major refit in 1903β1904.
By the mid-1900s, rapid naval technological advances, particularly the advent of all big-gun dreadnought battleships rendered Royal Sovereign and her sisters obsolete. She entered reserve status in 1905, was decommissioned in 1909, and sold for scrap in 1913.

The Ilyushin Il-22 was the first Soviet jet-engined bomber to fly on 24 July 1947. Powered by four Lyulka TR-1 turbojets, it was under powered, as the engines only produced 80% of their planned thrust. As a result, the Il-22 was unable to meet its design criteria and further development was cancelled on 22 September 1947.

Argentina purchased 30 Fiat G.55A fighters and 15 G.55B trainers in 1947. The aircraft were shipped from Italy in crates and assembled locally, entering service later that year. They were assigned primarily to fighter units based at El Plumerillo in Mendoza, where they were used both as operational interceptors and as advanced trainers for pilots transitioning to modern, high-performance monoplanes.

Adamastor was an unprotected cruiser of the Portuguese Navy commissioned in 1897. Adamastor undertook numerous overseas deployments to Portuguese colonies in Africa and Asia. She made goodwill and training cruises, including visits to Brazil and the Far East, reflecting Portugalβs global maritime connections.
Her most politically significant moment occurred during the Republican revolution of 5 October 1910. The shipβs crew sided with the revolutionaries and Adamastor participated in the bombardment of the royal palace at Necessidades.
Adamastor was decommissioned in 1933 and subsequently scrapped.

The Fiat G.55 Centauro was one of the most capable Italian fighter aircraft to see operational service in the final phase of the Second World War, and it became particularly associated with the fighter units of the Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana (ANR), the air arm of the Italian Social Republic in northern Italy after the September 1943 armistice.
Before Italyβs armistice, the G.55 had entered limited service with the Regia Aeronautica in 1943. The aircraft quickly demonstrated strong performance against Allied fighters, especially at medium and high altitudes. After the armistice divided Italy, production facilities in northern Italy fell under German control, allowing continued manufacture of the type for ANR units.
The ANR inherited a small but valuable number of G.55 fighters, which became central to its air-defence mission.
The G.55βs armament, typically consisting of three 20 mm cannon and two 12.7 mm machine guns. Its Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine provided competitive performance compared with contemporary Allied fighters such as the P-51 Mustang and Spitfire, although ANR units operated under severe logistical constraints.
The aircraftβs complex manufacturing process meant production remained slow. Industrial disruption, material shortages, and Allied bombing further reduced output during ANR service.
As a result, only a limited number of G.55s were available to ANR fighter groups at any given time. Maintenance difficulties and fuel shortages further constrained operations in the final months of the war.

The Russian ironclad battleship Ekaterina II was the lead ship of a class of Black Sea fleet ironclads constructed during the 1880s to counter the naval strength of the Ottoman Empire
Armour protection followed contemporary practice, with a thick belt of compound armour along the waterline and heavily protected barbettes. Throughout the 1890s Ekaterina II served as a core unit of the Black Sea Fleet, participating in exercises and representing Russian naval power in regional waters. By the early twentieth century she was obsolescent. On 22 April 1912, the former battleship was formally reclassified as Stricken Vessel No. 3. and was expended as a torpedo target during training exercises conducted by the Black Sea Fleet

Almirante Brown was ordered as part of Argentinaβs effort to maintain naval parity with neighbouring Brazil and Chile. The cruiser was constructed by the Italian shipbuilding firm Ansaldo at Genoa in Italy. She was laid down in 1927, launched in 1929, and commissioned into Argentine service in 1931. The vessel was the lead ship of a two-cruiser class that also included ARA Veinticinco de Mayo.
The design was closely related to contemporary Italian heavy cruisers, particularly in hull form and propulsion layout. Standard displacement was approximately 6,800 tonnes, with a full-load displacement exceeding 9,000 tonnes. The cruiser measured about 170 metres in length and was powered by steam turbines capable of producing roughly 85,000 shaft horsepower. This machinery allowed the ship to reach speeds of around 32 knots, making her one of the fastest warships in South American service at the time.
Armament consisted primarily of six 190 mm guns mounted in three twin turrets, two forward and one aft. This main battery was supported by secondary guns, anti-aircraft weapons, and torpedo tubes. Armour protection was relatively light, consistent with cruiser design philosophy of the era, which prioritised speed and firepower over heavy protection.
