My entry for @galacticarmory.net Trench Crusade contest. Didn't win, but with ~200 entries & some seriously stiff competition (& life throwing a number of issues up while underway), getting into the top ~1/4 - 1/5 of the results by votes is big effing win in my book. Hope more contests will happen!

Looking at it again, noticed that's the right hand, which means it's facing away from the viewer, which completely changes the 'feel / personality' of the mech in a very interesting way.

Cool! Something I just noticed looking at this again - when I looked at it earlier I didn't notice the orientation of the hand closest to the viewer, so I thought it was facing to the left.

Looking at the desktop on their laptop, you know they're unhinged without even reading their made-up story.

I dig it! So is the idea that the gem is the sentient bit that the body 'hosts', or that it's some kind of power source for the rest of the body?

Huge thank you to @foamsmith.com , Adam Savage was right in saying "when you need to look up how to do something, usually the first thing I come across is a video Bill's made of how to do it." Having enjoyed their vids for years, it's so awesome to be making stuff with all that shared knowledge!

This whole get-up started #3dprint last Friday night on a whim, & I was making the final pieces this morning (the chains on the ribbon hanging from the staff). All the files were things found on MakerWorld, & were printed on my @bambulabglobal.bsky.social X1C at home.

That was a lot of fun! Had a friend & his family come over & went along with them through my neighborhood. There were a lot of trick or treaters this year. Had kids saying how cool the get-up looked & adults wanting to take photos of the setup and asking how I made it. #Halloween

I miss playing @guildwars2.com , haven't played in probably 2 years, mainly cause life has strained me so much that I wouldn't be able to sit back & enjoy it. I still have to finish the post-End of Dragons content, but I am so buying the new expansion so it's ready for me when I'm ready for it.

When they do tear this bs down, it's going to be as much for failure to build a safe structure than for the million other reasons to do so. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky- maybe he'll fuck over the contractors on this project too, and the whole place could collapse on a bunch of rich assholes.

Nayuta looks awesome, and yeah, so much fun to see Chime becoming available. That minimap game has me super excited, been waiting for that announcement for ages.

Seeing people talk about using AI for *any* aspect of game development reminds me of that experience, only the company is spending far more money and effort for the service, only to have to spend far more time and employee effort to unf*ck everything, and then hope it's not made from stolen work.

When the assets were finally made and delivered, the models were passable, but the texture maps were poorly done and didn't match to our specs for color mapping to allow for player customization. I ended spending nearly two months going through all the assets having to redo textures and test them.

One of the games I worked on in my past was an MMO, which for player variety / customization required a volume of weapon models far greater than our team could crank out without adding time to development. The management decided to hire an overseas asset creation company to crank out a package.

Considering the fallout when it's caught that an art lead encouraged art theft (Bungie), what's gonna happen when a whole studio lets it happen through AI?

Want to bet they'll have to tear it down when he's gone because the corners cut make it a security nightmare?
