Although I think Virtua Fighter deserves even more credit than Shenmue, but fighting games are treated as though they're completely insular, even though just about anything with 3D characters (read: most games) owes a debt to it.

A while back I saw someone talking about the legacy of Shenmue and a bunch of people were saying in complete honesty that it wasn't a big deal and the only game it influenced was Yakuza. People really don't know much about Sega.
