What a paragraph.

The ‘we need to rethink our approach to the North Sea’ is dumbest conversation in UK politics
Expensive to extract- much of it now owned by small producers - that goes into global market
Good to jobs in Aberdeen, not much else
*mad* we’re not talking about energy security + renewables every day
europeans when asked to help unblock the strait of hormuz
Kier Starmer:
"What gives us control is renewables. Our own home-grown energy which is then more secure and more independent.
That’s why I think we should go further and faster on renewables.
Let’s get control of our own energy…so we don’t have to keep worrying that our bills are going to go up"
It's about 6 months before the start of the next heating season in UK. Plenty of time to swap a gas or oil boiler for a heat pump
This is cool. The Government is set to allow plug-in solar, low cost solar panels that families can buy at supermarkets and put on their balconies or outdoor space.
"In Germany over a million have been sold, helping households with energy costs and reducing dependence on fossil fuels."
Hummers wouldn't stand a chance on our narrow B roads.
Does anyone know why three US refueling planes would be circling Cornwall?
new arrow of time just dropped
If all military targets have already been "totally obliterated, as was stated 3 days ago, this sounds a bit war crimey.

Fossil fuel price shocks due to the Strait of Hormuz conflict show the risk of oil import dependency 🛢️
Replacing imported fossil fuels in transport with EVs can cut fossil imports by a THIRD, reducing exposure to volatile oil markets.

Elementary economics textbooks say that when the price of something rises, consumers look for cheaper substitutes. Where could we find substitutes for oil I wonder? Textbook capitalists should start pouring money into them right now.
Time to turn on the magic, Scotland 🏴
Telling juxtaposition on two pages of the FT. One story about how amazing the US's new AI military tech is and the other about planners/politicians entirely failed to realise what Iran would do to fight back.

New report from @renewableuk.bsky.social & @daisyp-c.bsky.social showing that distributed generation + demand flexibility + long-duration storage are key to providing UK energy security.
Analysis published today by the UK Climate Change Committee shows that decarbonising the UK by 2050 would cost less than than keeping the system as is if just one 2022 style price shock happened again. This analysis took place before the current price shock by the way.
It is extremely difficult to construct a practical case against this position. Net Zero is now as much about patriotism as it is about climate change.
