Gina Bennett has had enough after her husband of twenty-seven years lets her down one time too many. Deciding to choose herself, she embarks on a transformative solo journey to break free from the monotony of her life. She escapes to the gorgeous Greek island of Kalosiros, where she holidayed in her youth, and where she had her first romance with the handsome Nico. Encountering two kindred spirits in Rosie and Deedee, the women bond over art classes and cocktails, renewing their lust for life and a shared quest to find Gina's lost love. Together, they navigate the challenges of middle-age, self-discovery, and the liberating power of skinny-dipping. Will Gina find love again with her teenage sweetheart Nico, her husband, or with someone new?

If you love escapism from the mundane, then this is book for you as we join Gina as she leaves for Greece. Leaving behind her husband Colin, whose content in their boring lives where Gina does everything and he sits waited on hand and foot. He’s oblivious to her unhappiness and when she goes to Greece without him, he’s surprised that she can carry on in life without him. I was delighted when Gina travelled to Greece and instantly made friends with two fantastic women, the gloriously outspoken Rosie who as a wedding planner believes in love and happy ever afters and Deedee, a glamourous older woman who’s travelled the world and has so many experiences under her belt.

They help Gina regain her confidence, her love of art and having fun and when they find out this island is where Gina found her first love Nico and part of her hopes that she will run into him again and she can revisit those old feelings. The trio friendship group then embark on a plan of trying to find Nico and this brings them into many fun and hilarious situations.

I loved this story, it’s most certainly ‘Shirley Valentine’ meets ‘Mama Mia’. It’s packed with fun, nostalgia and hope as the women make friends and enjoy th… Post image Post image

Post image ‘The Honeymoon Affair’ is by Irish author Sheila O’Flanagan.

Izzy is in the Caribbean on the honeymoon-that-isn't after her fiancé broke her heart. She's not looking for someone new. But when she meets Charles Miller, a successful writer holidaying alone, the electricity is undeniable. And what does she have to lose? In Ireland, Charles's ex-wife and agent Ariel flits from party to party, glamorous and poised. She's in constant contact with Charles. They're very close. Ariel wonders if they should get back together. She's an independent woman, but she liked being part of a power couple. And she's sure she only has to say, and they'll pick up where they left off. No matter how in control of life you think you are, it can shock and surprise you. As Izzy, Ariel and Charles are about to find out.

It's been a while since I’ve read a book by Sheila so when I saw I saw her read at a local book event, I returned to her stories, and it was lovely to get swept away in this romantic tale.

The story is seen from the narrative of Izzy and Ariel, two completely different women who have one thing in common, they have both fallen in love with romantic writer Charles Miller. Izzy has disappeared to the Caribbean on what would have been her honeymoon if her ex-fiancée hadn’t dumped her and she’s now mending her broken heart with her cousin Celeste. But she catches the attention of Charles Miller, a romantic writer who is shocked that Izzy doesn’t know his books, as she’s more of a thriller reader and when Charles asks for her feedback on his manuscript, Izzy is honest and Charles finds himself threading into unknown territory and writes a crime book. Ariel is Charles ex-wife and agent and still harbours a hope that the pair might reconcile but now Izzy is on the scene, Ariel must get used to a new woman competing for Charles’ attention.

This is a great story with two strong female leads that makes for gripping reading. I loved Izzy, a young woman getting over a broken heart… Post image Post image

Book cover of ‘The Friend of the Family’ by Dean Koontz The Friend of the Family’ is the latest book by Dean Koontz.

I’m a fan of Dean Koontz and have been since I was a teenager. I borrowed ‘Phantoms’ from the local library and had to keep it in the kitchen when I went to bed as it scared me that much!

‘If you’re looking for another horror book from Dean, then ‘A Friend of the Family’ isn’t for you. It’s a story of belonging and love and is an uplifting story of finding your place in the world.

The story is seen through the narrative Alida, a girl with deformities and she’s exploited for them by being paraded around for people to mock and pity her. She longs for help and that comes in the shape of Loretta and Franklin who rescue her and bring her to leave with them and their 3 children and staff. Alida slots easily into the new life and even begins to forget that she’s different, but then she realises that she has the gift of healing and with this help saves lives as well as help others carry on.

I loved Alida, she’s a gentle and kind soul, she’s quick witted and fun. I loved her interaction with the 3 children, Isadora, Gertrude and Harry and gave as good as she got when playing with them. The story travel through the years that Alida lives the family during the 1930s and it’s interesting to see the changes in the world through a child’s eyes.

A tender story that is the complete opposite to Dean’s horror novels, ‘A Friend of the Family’ is well crafted story about uniqueness and belonged.

You can buy ‘The Friend of the Family’ from Amazon and is available to buy from good bookshops.

Sophie Kinsella: Author of Shopaholic series of novels dies aged 55 The author of the Shopaholic series of novels had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Such sad news to hear of the passing of #SophieKinsella, I absolutely loved the Shopaholic series and ‘Can You Keep A Secret?’ was one of my favourite books, a terrible loss to the book world.
