School exemptions to discrimination law leave religious LGBTQIA+ teens unprotected Federal laws allow religious schools to discriminate against LGBTQIA+ people. New research shows religious and sexuality diverse teens fall through the cracks.

Pleased to share this article James and I wrote for The Conversation.

It’s part of our work on an ARC funded project led by Anna Hickey-Moody exploring young people navigating being religious and queer.

While my feed is full of outraged and embarrassed Americans, I'd like to remind everyone that Trump got 77,284,118 votes, that's almost 50% of all presidential votes in 2024.

Research advice please.

We are currently getting many many fake participants for our research, replying to recruitment, even filling out consent forms, but then not showing up for interviews. Sometimes we can tell, but not always.

Advice on identifying these people?

Followed the book up with watching Just Mercy about Bryan Stevenson, Walter McMillian and the Equality Justice Initiative. So important, apparently 10% of death row people have been wrongly found guilty!!!

Cover of the book The Sun Does Shine by Anthony Ray Hinton.

The Sun Does Shine by Ray Hinton, from the Oprah book club. This is an incredible story. From Wikipedia I see that Ray Hinton has in no way been compensated by the state. How anyone involved in putting or keeping him on death row lives with themselves I don’t know.

Cover of Whiskey Tender by Deborah Jackson Taffa.

Cleverly told. A child’s experience and confused understanding followed by history and analysis. I found it slow at times, but valuable in what it shows: kids need to be given language and concepts to better understand their experiences of social injustice. Whiskey Tender, Deborah Jackson Taffa.

Book cover of Men Have Called Her Crazy by Anna Marie Tendler.

I’m not really sure how I came across this book but it’s a New York Time’s best seller so I thought why not? Well, it really was pretty crap and I found the author very unlikeable!
