eventually politicians need to start advocating for criminal and civil penalties for people involved in fabricating stories to get citizens incarcerated.

or, put another way: a society that would like to keep functioning has to discourage baldfaced lying, especially by authorities

I'd rather receive false information and keep my conservative views then receive true information and follow a socialistic agenda.

Republicans post fake image of Oregon protest – using photos of South America A federal judge had blocked Trump’s request to deploy California national guard to Portland

The Oregon Republican Party tried to help Donald Trump make the case for military intervention in Portland with an image of a fiery protest — but since Portland is calm, they had to fabricate one by merging old photos of police in Ecuador and protesters in Brazil www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

So, absolutely nothing that Winston says has the slightest effect on anyone listening.
Concurrently, everything Chloe says is a siren call to violence.

There is *literally* only one side inciting & escalating political violence & almost all NZ msm are claiming it's the other way around

This is the fascist turn happening in real time. Sorry to break it to you - a bunch of propagandists & decision makers across media & business have chosen sides

The economy is not going to recover in time to give Luxon an election boost.
This means Winston, Luxon, and Seymour will try to stir up culture wars to distract us.
Don't get sucked in - just hammer home the lousy economic performance, the incredibly high cost of living, and the general despair.

One of the more incredible stories out of LA this year has been how a taco review blog became the best on-the-ground coverage of ICE raids in the city.

They do a dispatch every day, follow-up on the kidnapped people (which almost no media outlet has done), and fact-check government claims.

After my interview with Bridge about women’s sport I heard from a LOT of women who’d had similar experiences. Many of them had complained. NZME are well aware Bridge is a raging misogynist and are happy to let him continue.

I agree with every word Zelda Williams says. And this at the end from OpenAI makes me want to go full Ned Ludd. Creators can’t have a blanket opt-out on copyright infringement of their work and have to fill out a form appealing to OpenAI’s mercy every time? Fuck off into the sun

I lived in Molesworth Street during the 2022 occupation. It wasn’t “peaceful”; it was filth and menace. People shat and pissed on our lawns. Emergency workers were blocked from reaching neighbours. The smell lingered for weeks.

Downplaying an act of violence might have been the appropriate response from him, and might not be the appropriate in our current moment - I don't know - but the complete refusal to make political hay out of it is night and day from the current Government.

More than 800,000 Uber and Lyft drivers in California will be able to unionize under a bill that has now been signed into law.

The law also requires the corporate giants to bargain with these workers in good faith.

So school leavers with no resources are supposed to just move away from home and instantly get work, a place to live etc etc? How do they do that?

Does he realise that you have to have a job BEFORE you can rent somewhere, buy food, pay bills etc?

“We are home now. We marched from the park to ICE, very peaceful crowd. We were standing around ICE pushed us down, sprayed us with chemical and I was hit in the head with a projectile. This was so unprovoked. People have to know that the Feds are attacking people with NO provocation whatsoever.”

Also they ran just incredibly awful commentary with incredibly shawty evidence (which I’m sure will become feature at CBS now). For example, the author of this piece claimed the Allies won WWII with inferior technology minus the atomic bomb lol

perhaps the biggest story TFPever ran was a catastrophically shoddy argument that George Floyd ackshully died of an overdose. When confronted with irrefutable evidence that the piece was simply wrong, Weiss didn’t take it down, she asked her critic, @radleybalko.bsky.social, to come on a podcast.

Two things:

1. The NYT elevated this person to prominence through _opinion_ pages. She has never been a journalist.

2. Substack paid her and several others to come to their platform. I have no idea why so many of you are (still/ever) on there but you need to rethink it.

Artificial Intelligence in Cultural Institutions: a two-day conference in Gorizia on 6th and 7th October

Here’s another example of how the tech industry is infiltrating cultural institutions, mining historical artifacts & historical expertise. The rhetoric here of “advantages & limitations” is common, but the conclusion is foregone that AI has a role in this sphere. portale.units.it/en/news/arti...
