Math/MathBio educators: Need an R version of pplane for graphical phase plane analysis of 2D systems of ODEs?
My "Rpplane" code is at www.pauljhurtado.com/R/code/Rppla...
I've also added links to alternatives for Matlab, Python, Java, and R (hollar if I'm missing any links, you find bugs, etc.).

Marisa Eisenberg delivers a phenomenal talk at #SMB2025! Glad people like her are involved in helping guide gov't response. And if you're like me and super want to dig into the simulation grounded neural networks (SGNNs) here't the github: github.com/carsondudley...
Kicking off the afternoon sessions, Marisa Eiaenberg (University of Michigan) is giving a plenary talk on "Building partnerships in public health: using models to inform interventions and grapple with uncertainty".

🧪 Tip: You have the right to contest a grant termination, even though NSF says you don't. 🧵
On Friday, NSF terminated 402 grants (per Musk's DOGE).
The notification letters had one of the most egregious violations of fed regulations I've seen so far in these cases:
"not subject to appeal"
Malhuret comes from the centre-right in France. This is part of a trend we're seeing across Europe and Canada. Centre-right politicians and media are not merely abandoning Trump as a phony ideological ally, but are now strongly denouncing him as the malign tyrant of a former ally turned rogue state.
French Senator Claude Malhuret:
"Washington has become Nero’s court, with an incendiary emperor, submissive courtiers and a jester high on ketamine... We were at war with a dictator, we are now at war with a dictator backed by a traitor."
I can't think of a faster way to undermine the country than simultaneously firing government workers, cutting scientific research, rolling back protections on public health & environment, & cutting essential services. It's like the US was defeated in war and is being occupied by a hostile enemy.
Long read, but solid advice for making impactful calls to your elected officials. Make those calls part of your daily or weekly routine.
Hesitant? Calling is WAY easier than you think -- jot down some notes, then give it a try! 👍🏼
Check out the "5 calls" app: it has phone numbers & topic info. 🙂
When your neighbors' house is on fire, YOUR house is in danger. Even a selfish neighbor has an interest in funding the local fire station and nudging neighbors to maintain a fire-safe property.
That's how foreign aid works too, but Trump is too disfuncional to be a "common sense" good neighbor.
Vile and hateful... Support your favorite organizations who are bringing lawsuits against this and other EOs.
Yippee!! New mathbio journal!!

I’m hearing from constituents whose jobs are at risk because they do agency outreach to minority communities.
Consider what this means for public health, national security, agriculture and justice.
The war on DEI has become a war on public service and government for all.
Disturbing move that may fly under the radar - Trump removes members of PCLOB, the board the oversees privacy in the intelligence community, leaving it inoperable, at least for now.

The truth of January 6th can't be erased. Watch the pardoned criminals brutally attacking police inside the Capitol and see what some call 'patriotism.' No spin, just facts.

Hello new community! I love how fast this place is growing. FYI we released a new Indivisible guide with practical steps that folks in red, blue, & purple states can take to fight back. Trump’s proposed Cabinet is a dream team for Christian nationalists and a nightmare for church-state separation and our secular democracy.

What is the difference between weather and climate. This #dataviz shows the "Central England" average temperature for periods ranging from 1 day (weather) to 30 years (climate). This shows the climate signal emerging. Note the varying y axis that covers the range of the data.
