Prof. Julia Sallabank, who leads RISE UP's SOAS team, will give her inaugural lecture on the pressures facing minoritised languages and what is needed to keep them in use.

Last week, the team of UNIVIE participated the annual FORUM Minderheitenschulwesen 2025, a forum concerned with minoritised language education. Together with Zwetelina Ortega, we briefly presented the concept of a "language village" for Burgenland Croatian, a strategy for language learning and use.

We presented an analysis of attitudes towards standardisation of the Aromanian language.

Eva Eppler was invited to share the results of the transnational RISE UP survey on #Aromanian with the community at the #Symposium commemorating the arrival of the first Aromanians in Romania 100 years ago. Stakeholders praised the findings as important for the community.

We spent three days with meetings and discussions on our outcomes, final steps, and sustainability and uptake of our results.
We also visited the Croatian Centre in Vienna - thank you for having us!

In September, 5 Burgenland Croatian speakers with language expertise visited the office of the UNIVIE team to work on our Digital Toolkit. They spent the whole day translating language exercises into Burgenland Croatian and recording dialogs. Thank you so much for your expertise & valuable work! 💬✨

Aug 18–23, the Univ. of Tartu hosted the 14th International Congress for Finno-Ugric Studies (CIFU), with close to 300 participants from 20 countries. A key outcome was an official appeal to recognize & protect South Estonian languages.
